Dangerous Questions

Kowalsk knew he had made a huge mistake trying to outsmart Piotr, but there was something he needed to know, so he had to ask.

"Listen here, Piotr, I've been in the outside world my entire life, which is a long time. I've only been here for a few hours, even though it's against my will because I'm imprisoned. But from what I could observe, it seems to me that you've never left this place. Or if you have, it was a long time ago."

"Stop beating around the bush and just ask what you want to know, old soldier," Piotr said impatiently.

"Alright, I'll be more direct. Since you were an experiment here, maybe they didn't give you enough instructions to know everything about this place. Am I right?"

Despite the noise, Piotr could hear him well and quickly responded, "Yes, you are absolutely right. But do you know everything that happens around you, Mr. Kowalsk?"

The old soldier was ready for anything, including this response. "It's obvious that I don't know everything that happens around me, but rest assured, I know much more than you do."

Piotr was indignant and even felt like hitting Kowalsk. However, with the noise intensifying at the hatch, he decided to ignore it.

The laboratory they were in was quite large, and both Kowalsk and Piotr were determined to find an opening, whether in the ceiling or the floor, that would give them an opportunity to escape.

Seeing Piotr's eagerness to find the exit, Kowalsk decided to ask, "I know I'm not a good friend, but I try to be a good companion..."

Piotr, standing close to him, just glared at him disapprovingly.

"...but be honest with me, Piotr, why don't you know where the exits are?"

"Simply because they never told me. I was always imprisoned."

"And how did you get out? Considering that besides you, there's only that dragon that arrived here with me. Except for the hungry beasts outside, you're the only living being I've seen here," Kowalsk asked, even more curious.

"And who said it was me who got myself out?" Piotr replied sadly.

"What do you mean by that, Piotr?" Kowalsk asked, now looking worried.

"I mean that someone 'very clever' arrived here not many hours ago, and by messing with certain buttons and levers, ended up deactivating the security locks of many containment areas, including my prison. And here I am."

Kowalsk was momentarily terrified, worried about what he had unleashed into the world.

Seeing the look of shock on Kowalsk's face, Piotr tried to calm him with a mocking expression. "You don't need to be afraid of me because of that, old soldier. The world seems to be much more dangerous for you out there than it is for you in here. Remember, I'm as imprisoned here as you are."

Then Kowalsk realized that if anyone was in danger, it was him and not the world, and he quickly tried to remedy the tense situation between them.

"I'm not afraid of you, Piotr. Now, more than ever, I want to get out of here to show you things you've probably never seen. After all, when was the last time you were outside this place?"
