Chapter 6

5 YEARS LATER.

The knocking sound of a woman's heels could be heard as all eyes were fixed on the woman who was cartwalking towards the hospital. Her bright and lovely face couldn't be avoided. She always wire a smile and one wonders if she had ever gotten hurt before. She was a doctor and every patient loved to be treated by her.

This doctor had earn the name queen bee over the years. Pride had her and no one could match to her qualifications. Every doctor and nurse were acquinted with her as she was a care-free person. The hospital was only progressing because of this hard-working doctor. She had to put a lot at stake just to gain the recognition she had now, though this wasn't the end of her career as her greedy ambition to get to the top lurks in her mind.

Her feet led her to the president's office. He was an old man who would soon retire and most people believe this doctor would soon the president of the hospital who was the city's hospital. She exchanged gestures with the old man who wore a grumpy face. If only people knew he never finds a liking to this doctor who fought her way to gain her ambition. He was seated opposite her and pilling up files which she would attend to. He was one who goes straight to the point and quickly broke the reason why he requested her over.

"What?" She snapped jerking from the seat with a scoff of disbelief. He had to beckon on her to sit back as he furthered in his words. His lips kept muttering that she could actually be a heroine which the world would recognize for her brave act if she accept this offer and not to turn it down quickly without considering the benefits.

"You would accompany some doctors too" he added and she shook her head attempting to explain that she wasn't interested in doing that. Her eyes rested on the files on his desk and realized hers was the first to be sighted.

"Doctor stacy...this could raise chances of you been promoted" he mused trying to convince her as she was one stubborn doctor who couldn't be easily convinced. There was nothing he would say that would make her accept. To hell with being a hero, her life was at stake and she preferred being the queen bee than leaving the country to a foreign land.

"No!" She refutes annoyed by the proposal. Did she tell them that she was made be a charity volunteer and why do they have to chose her of all the other top doctor? Stacy wasn't interested and that was final. The old man growled, thud his hand slowly on the table thinking of what possibly could change her mind. Only experts were needed for this mission and it was just for 6 months. She and some medical teams were to act as volunteers to a country at war and also provide aids to the internally displaced people there as per the government wish.

Some of the soldiers from their country were deployed there and the president desired to send her over there as one of the best doctors in the world with hope that she would be of help in the camp. Though he had a motive and since it wasn't in his power to tame this nurse down, it was best she sends her to war to be killed. No one would take his position except his granddaughter who was an inexperienced doctor yet got promoted on daily bases. However, he sure knew the best thing that would win her answer. This selfish old man grinned and said;

"How about we let you long lasting dream come true?"

Stacy narrowed her eyes at him as she was tensed over the next statement that he would bring up.

She bite her lips while pacing to and fro. Her friend nate kept raking her hair while her eyes studied Stacy. There had been silence between them and Stacy was just stuck on the fact why she had to accept the president offer out of the blue. They were at the laboratory and Stacy had deem it fit to tell her friend about the next turn of her life.

"Why did you accept? It could be quite dangerous" nate broke the long silence as she was having goosebumps for her friend. She couldn't believe Stacy could do anything for an ulterior motive.

"He says if I survive, I would be the president...think of that offer, I would be working on a mission with our trusted soldiers" Stacy responded with a nervous gaze at Abigail who gawp at her greedy friend. From her reply, nate could tell the president was up to no good. She tries to convince Stacy to turn down the offer because she never trusts the presidents words.

"That's why you've never found love... everything is about... argue...your wild dreams" Abigail roared and Stacy shrugged her shoulders with a zealous look that it was obvious she had had her mind made up for this dangerous mission which she was yet to embark on.

"It's more like a training for 6 months"

"6 months! You would be probably dead!" Stacy yelled and as Stacy was about to respond, a knock was heard interrupting their conversation.

"Doctor stacy?" The voice called. It was Ethan, a junior doctor who looks up to stacy as his mentor. Though most workers here believes, they were secretly dating as they were often seen together.

"Yes?" She responded with a frown as though she knew what he was there for.

"We're leaving in a week time and rest volunteers are excited about the trip..."

He hadn't finished his statement when Nate smirked at him. If only those volunteers knew they were taking a route to their early death.

"Reconsider Stacy" Abigail pleaded and Ethan folded his lips, then whispered to Abigail that he was going to take care of her. Abigail gave him a daring glare and then heaved a sigh. Ethan was the only one who could convince Abigail into agreeing to her friend's decision and choice. Though it took time to convince this stern nurse.

"Whatever, you both should just come back alive" she concluded and the both doctor snickered at her. Abigail raked her hair. She was against this project; as she was having a bad feeling about this. Perhaps, this could be the last time she would ever see her beloved friend again.
