ch 30- Prisoner 2

Mirik's POV-

"Wake up kid." I heard a voice from behind me as I slowly opened my eyes. My hands were uncuffed, my legs were freed and the rag on my head was nowhere to be found. But it didn't help as the place we were in was pitch black.

"Thanks for helping me, Sir," I said in the direction the voice came from.

"It's ok. Do you mind if I ask what your name is?" the unknown voice asked in a teary voice.

"Umm...Mirik." I said hesitatingly. I didn't trust him but he helped me earlier so telling him my name was the least I could do for him.

"Mirik, what a good name. And your last name?" he asked again.

"Diman, Mirik Diman," I said as silence ensued in the place we were. Suddenly I found Big arms wrapped around me. I became cautious as I thought that he might be trying to kill me. But then sobs echoed in the dark place. It shocked me that why a man was crying while hugging me but I was helpless in the situation. He stopped crying after some time and wiping noises could be heard.

"Whose son are you? Raja or Kana? Judging from your face you should be Kana's son." the man said. I felt a cold sweat down my spine. How did he know father and uncle? And more importantly, how could he see in the darkness. I could feel that using spiritual energy here was impossible.

"Don't be surprised. Your logic won't work on me," he said.

"Have you exceeded the limit of spiritual suppression inside here?" I asked.

"Oho..you are quite smart. Must be my genes," he said while laughing out loud. I was taken aback by him. What did he mean by his genes? Is he related to me? As I was thinking this I remembered what my uncle told me once. Our grandfather was a man with thick skin and loved talking big, Rama Diman. He was the only one who was fitting the situation here.

"Grandpa?" I said to him making him laugh even louder.

"You really are a quite smart kid. How are both of those boys doing since I was gone? How many more grandchildren do I have?" he asked questions one after another. I was overwhelmed by them.

"Uncle is dead." this one line was enough to put all of Rama's questions to rest. Silence fell over again. Rama took some time to clear his mind.

"Why? They were not even good at fighting. They couldn't have done any evil. Was it because of me? Did he die naturally?" he started mumbling. I felt bad for him. The loss of a child was much greater than I could ever imagine. I couldn't hold it in and told him everything that happened.

Rama patted my head and consoled me.

"It's not your fault. They would have come after us anyway. Now no need to take this burden upon yourself. Don't worry we will go and help Kiara and Bala too. But before going out I have to train you or you will die a miserable death." he said while patting me on the head.

"You said that the chain betrayed you? Hmm...it might be possible. Adi cares about aggressive types more than anything else. Let's see what type of talent you have." he said standing up.

"Your training starts now," he said while distancing himself from me.

"Prepare tonight's food and water. Let's see how long you can survive," he said while his presence completely disappeared.

I also stood up but not being able to see anything was disorienting. In pitch black darkness there is no sense of direction and walking too is difficult. The best choice was to crawl on the ground and so I did.

I didn't know what kind of food could we eat here but I focused on hearing. I concentrated without any sense of time. seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned to hours but all I could hear were noises made by bugs. I couldn't be picky in this situation so I started thinking about how to catch them.

"Let's see what you do now kid." Rama's voice echoed in the prison.

I had two ways to catch the bugs. The first one was the hard one, I could crawl all day and find where the bugs lay eggs and the deal is done or I could do it the easy way.

I stripped from the torso and held my sweater with one hand and tucked it under my knee and started rubbing like mad.

A few seconds later sparks of static electricity started to come out.
