( 3rd POV )
The mansion's command room, though modest compared to the expansive, high-tech headquarters of Chaldea, still held a certain elegance. The circular table at the room's center was surrounded by high-backed chairs, each bearing an emblem of Chaldea. Ken and the girls, minus the ever-reckless Mordred, entered the room after a brisk walk through the mansion's winding hallways.
Inside of the rooms, Sion sat at one of the chairs, her eyes glued to her exclusive tablet. Her fingers danced across its surface with a practiced ease, pulling up streams of data.
Beside her another familiar woman is also sitting with her usual mischievous smile noticeably absent. Instead, her gaze was fixed intently on the screen of her own tablet, her lips pursed as if she were deep in thought.
Ken raised his hand in a casual greeting. "Yo! Sorry for the wait, Sion, Da Vinci,"
Sion glanced up briefly, her purple eyes scanning the newcomers. "Mhm, it's fine. Just take your seats," she replied curtly, motioning towards the empty chairs with a slight wave of her hand.
Mash quickly took a seat beside Ken after greeting the two magus, followed by Anna and Daisy, who exchanged a brief look of nervousness as they settled down.
Sion leaned in slightly towards Da Vinci, her voice dropping to a whisper. "So, these two are the newcomers you mentioned?" she asked, her eyes darting towards Anna and Daisy with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
Da Vinci let out a quiet, amused chuckle. "Fufufu, yes. The one with the mixed hair is Anna, a Type-X Meta," she explained, keeping her voice low. "And the blonde girl is Daisy, a Type-T Meta. Quite the intriguing pair, aren't they?" Both of them said while whispering.
Ken's curiosity got the better of him as he glanced at Da Vinci. "By the way, Da Vinci, what brings you here? I wasn't expecting to see you in this meeting," he asked, his eyes narrowing slightly as if trying to read her thoughts.
Da Vinci flashed a knowing smile, her eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief. "Oh, I have my reasons, Master. There are a few things I need to discuss with both you and Sion. But we can get to that later," she responded, giving him a playful wink.
Ken raised an eyebrow at her cryptic answer but chose not to press further. He knows it's not the right moment now.
The real reason they had gathered was clear: they needed answers about Anna and Daisy's families. Mash, ever the dutiful kouhai, felt the weight of the newcomers' uncertainty and decided to take the lead.
She leaned forward, clasping her hands together nervously. "Ano, S-Sion-san..." she began, her voice wavering slightly under Sion's intense gaze.
Sion's eyes filled with analytical sharpness, now held a softer and more complicated look as she studied the two girls. Her silence stretched on, making the room feel colder. Both Daisy and Anna shifted uncomfortably in their seats, feeling the scrutiny of not just Sion but also Da Vinci.
Ken, sensing the growing awkwardness, cleared his throat loudly. "Ahem, ladies," he interjected, forcing a smile as he attempted to lighten the mood. "Can we get started with the meeting?"
Sion exhaled sharply, breaking her intense gaze and pulling out her tablet. "Sigh, I know." she muttered, her fingers flying over the screen "Sorry, it was kinda rude of me. It just, I hope you two are prepared for what you're about to see," she added, her voice tinged with a rare hint of sympathy.
Daisy and Anna exchanged puzzled looks, confusion evident in their expressions. Mash's brow furrowed as she glanced at her senpai, sensing the same foreboding feeling that had begun gnawing at Ken's mind.
He couldn't shake the uneasy feeling creeping up his spine. His eyes met Da Vinci's across the table, and she gave a small, almost imperceptible shake of her head, a wry smile playing on her lips. The gesture was enough for Ken to understand that whatever was coming.
The hologram in the center of the table flickered to life, casting a blue glow across their faces. A series of images and videos appeared, displaying fragmented scenes and data points that seemed to dance across the surface.
Daisy's and Anna's eyes widened in awe as they watched the holographic display. For a brief moment, their expressions lightened, fascinated by the advanced technology before them.
Sion cleared her throat, drawing their attention back. "Alright, I'm going to keep this brief," she began, her tone serious. "As per Mash's request, I've investigated the whereabouts of your parents." Her eyes softened as they flickered towards Daisy first. "Let's start with you first, Daisy."
Daisy, who had been lost in the mesmerizing hologram display, snapped back to reality. Her head turned sharply towards Sion, her expression a mix of hope and dread. "Me?" she whispered, pointing at herself, her voice barely audible.
"Daisy Johnson, used to be an orphan of St. Agnes Orphanage before getting adopted," The hologram shifted, displaying a series of videos and files. Images of a young girl at St. Agnes Orphanage flashed by, followed by adoption records.
Sion swiped her fingers across the tablet, and the hologram flickered to a new image—a man with a bulky frame, his sneering face twisted into a permanent scowl. "Using Chaldea's extensive network, I managed to trace your biological lineage," Sion said.
"Your father's name is Calvin Zabo, also known in the criminal underworld as Mister Hyde. A once-brilliant medical researcher who spiraled into madness and became a notorious supervillain. He is currently residing in Hell's Kitchen, hiding out in one of his secret lairs."
Daisy's heart sank as she stared at the hologram. The rest of the group also exchanged uneasy glances. Never in her wildest dreams had Daisy imagined her biological bastard father would be a genuine villain.
Anna and Mash, seated beside her, watched Daisy with concern. Anna reached out before squeezing Daisy's hand gently. "Hey, are you okay?" she asked, her voice filled with empathy.
Daisy didn't respond immediately. Her gaze remained fixed on the sneering face of Calvin Zabo. The revelation hit her like a physical blow, leaving her stunned and silent. She had always imagined her parents as victims of circumstance, not villains who chose a path of destruction.
Sion continued without pausing, her voice taking on a more somber tone as the hologram shifted again "Safe your question for later. Next is about your biological mother." she said, addressing Daisy's shock while showing a complicated eye. "Her name is Jennifer Kimberly Johnson, she was... An escort..."
The image on the hologram changed to a woman with long black hair, her Asian features delicate yet tired, as if life had worn her down.
The room fell silent at this revelation. Sion's normally confident voice softened, and she cast a sympathetic glance toward Daisy. "Your father met her during one of his many nights out and then things happen. Jennifer became pregnant with Zabo's baby, they separated and live goes on. But one day after she gave birth to her baby, she gave the baby up for adoption. After that, she went missing. No news, no internet records, nothing."
The weight of Sion's words pressed down on the room, leaving everyone in stunned silence.
"This..." Anna who are sitting beside Daisy was left speechless. She knows that her friend was an orphan, but she never knows that her origin would be so complicated.
Anna glanced toward her left side, trying to check if Daisy is okay. But she saw Daisy just staring at the hologram with a blank expression. She feels sympathy toward the poor girl. Mash also felt the same as Anna and show her concern toward Daisy.
But Sion wasn't finished. She took a deep breath, her eyes narrowing as she looked at the data on her tablet. "There's one more thing," she said, her voice regaining its sharpness. "From the medical reports I've gathered about your mother, combined with your blood samples, I've come to a conclusion that both of you are not ordinary humans." Sion dropped the last and the biggest information about Daisy with calm voices.
"W-what...?"
"What did you mean, Sion-san?"
The two girls beside Daisy let out and exclamation before Mash asked with a confusion shown on her face. Meanwhile Ken was staring at the hologram with a thoughtful expression.
But just before Sion could answer, the other magus women on the room stepped in to explain. "It means that Daisy is a possible Metahumans," Anna was about to asked if it is the same as her, but Da Vinci give her an instant answer. "No, its not like you Anna. We known that the so called mutant got their power because of the X-Gene in the mutants' DNA. But Daisy DNA doesn't have the so called X-Gene in it. Her unknown gene inside of her seems to be unawaken at the moment. "
"Because of our insufficient knowledge about Daisy DNA, we could only leave it temporarily for now. But for the previous mutants, we already classify them as a Metahumans Type-X." Sion said.
Thanks to the Ken's file and their research after they got some of the blood samples from the X-mansion, The Chaldea understanding about the X-Gene could progress by leaps and bounds.
But their research about the Inhumans is the opposite. Despite the incomplete information provided by Ken, they are never able to even start it. One is because they never meet the Inhumans who already awaken their power, and second is because the process to awaken their DNA is more complicated compared to the Type-X.
They need a thing called a Terrigen Crystal that carried the Terrigen Mist in order to activate their Inhuman genes and ascend as meta-humans.
That's why faced by Daisy situation, the Chaldea group of magus could only wait until they managed to acquire some samples about the Inhumans first.
Daisy let out a bitter laugh, her voice cracking slightly as she finally spoke, breaking the heavy silence.
"That was wild…" Daisy muttered, her tone tinged with disbelief and bitterness. She forced a wry smile, though it didn't reach her eyes. "Never thought my pops would be a supervillain and my ma might be an alien."
Her voice trailed off as she stared at the holographic display, as if hoping to find some hidden detail that would tell her this was all just a bad dream.
Da Vinci, who are her nominal mother could sense Daisy sadness on her voices and show a look of concern to the girl. "Daisy…" Da Vinci said gently, her eyes full of empathy. The other is also the same as they glance toward Daisy with a genuine concern on their faces.
This also why Sion and Da Vinci show a complicated looks at the beginning toward the two newcomers, because they already knew the information beforehand.
Anna, who was seated next to Daisy, hesitated. She wanted to comfort her friend but found herself at a loss for words. "Daisy…" she started, her voice soft and unsure. She paused, trying to find the right thing to say, but the words wouldn't come.
Daisy noticed Anna's worry and offered her a small, strained smile. "It's okay, Anna. I'm fine. It just... There is a lot to take in." she said, her tone attempting to sound reassuring, even though it was clear she was anything but. "Besides, we are not finished yet right, Miss Sion?" Daisy said as if she were trying to shift the focus away from herself.
Sion nodded, grateful for the change of pace, though her expression turned serious once more. "Yes, you're right. We still need to discuss Anna's situation." She met Anna's gaze, her eyes filled with sympathy. "Anna, I managed to uncover some information about your mother as well."
Anna's heart skipped a beat at the mention of her mother. She felt a cold knot of fear form in her stomach, her hands clenching into fists on the table. "H-how is my mom, Miss Sion?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Is she okay…?"
"Your mom..." Sion paused for a second, contemplating how is she gonna tell her. "After the incident of your awakening and you running away, your mother was found unconscious. The neighbors called an ambulance, and she was taken to the hospital. She was unconscious for two days but eventually regained consciousness."
The hologram in the middle of the table shifted, showing security footage from the hospital. There, lying on a bed with various medical monitors hooked up to her, was Anna's mother. The sight made Anna's heart clench. Her mother looked frail and exhausted, but she was alive. Relief flooded through Anna, her tense shoulders relaxing for the first time since this conversation began.
"Nothing serious happen to her as only a bit of her vitality got sucked by you. "The hospital took good care of her, and she was discharged two days later. As soon as she returned home, she reported you as a missing person, telling the police about the incident and her determination to find you."
The hologram flickered again, showing footage of Anna's mother at the police station, her face a mask of worry and determination as she spoke to the officers. Anna's eyes filled with tears as she watched.
Despite everything, her mother hadn't given up on her. Even after what Anna had done—draining her vitality in a moment of uncontrollable power—her mother's first instinct had been to find her, not to blame her.
Anna wiped away a tear that slipped down her cheek, a mixture of relief and guilt washing over her. "She... she's still worried about me," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion.
Daisy placed a comforting hand on Anna's shoulder. "See? Your mom's okay, and she's still looking out for you," she said softly, offering a gentle smile. "You've got a great mother, Anna."
Mash, seated on Anna's other side, nodded in agreement. "Daisy's right. Your mom's strong, just like you," she said, her smile warm and reassuring.
Even Ken gave a small nod, a rare show of approval that made Anna's heart swell with happiness.
Anna sniffled, wiping away another tear before looking at her friends with a genuine smile. "Thank you, all of you," she said, her voice thick with emotion.
"But," Sion began, her tone drawing everyone's attention back to her, "a day later, something terrible happened." The words felt like a knife slicing through the thin veil of relief they had felt moments before.
The holographic display shifted, flickering as it projected a CCTV feed from Anna's home. Everyone's eyes were glued to the screen. The room fell into a hushed silence as the video played, the tension palpable. Anna's breath hitched, her body tensing as anxiety start to stir inside of her.
Her mother appeared on the screen, sitting on the worn-out sofa in the living room, the afternoon sunlight streaming in through the curtains, casting a golden hue across the room. Her mother was on a call with the police, her voice steady but tinged with worry.
Suddenly, a puff of red smoke filled the living room. It dissipated as quickly as it appeared, revealing two figures standing ominously. One was a tall man with red skin and piercing yellow eyes while beside him, a hulking figure with wild blonde hair and feral eyes grinned menacingly.
"Oh no..."
"Sabretooth! Azazel!"
"M-Mom... Run!"
On the screen, Anna's mother gasped, startled by the sudden appearance of the intruders. Before she could react, Sabretooth lunged forward, swinging his massive clawed hand. His strike was quick, almost too fast for the eye to follow. His claws raked across her arm, tearing through flesh and causing her to drop the phone with a scream of pain.
Blood splattered across the carpet, and the phone clattered to the ground, the muffled voice of the police operator barely audible, asking if everything was alright.
Anna shot up from her seat, her eyes wide with horror. "MOM!" she screamed, her voice cracking with fear and anger. Her friends moved to restrain her, but her body was already shaking with a desperate need to act.
On the hologram, Azazel smirked as he stepped forward, his boot crushing the fallen phone underfoot, silencing the faint cries from the other end. Sabretooth grabbed Anna's mother by the throat, hoisting her off the ground with ease. Blood dripped from her injured arm as she struggled, her face contorted in pain and terror.
His claws dug into her neck, just enough to draw blood but not enough to kill—a clear threat, a twisted smile playing on his lips as he savored the fear in her eyes before starting to interrogated her.
But, Sabretooth turned his head slightly, glancing directly into the hidden CCTV camera. He narrowed his eyes, as if sensing some kind of surveillance. With a grunt, he nodded to Azazel.
Understanding the barbaric man mean, Azazel teleported in a flash of red smoke. The screen went black as the feed was cut off, the room plunged into a heavy silence filled only with the sound of Anna's ragged breathing.
"NOOOO, MOOOOMMM!!!"
Anna's scream tore through the room, filled with raw, unfiltered agony. The sheer weight of her emotions—fear, guilt, rage—hit her all at once, crushing her under an unbearable wave of pain. She couldn't believe that the two people who kidnap her would also attack her mother. She was fine just a moment ago, but now?
"Anna!"
Mash and Daisy rushed to her side, their expressions filled with concern. They are standing beside her, trying to comfort her, but their words couldn't reach her through the haze of grief.
Anna's mind was a chaotic storm, her thoughts racing as she tried to process what she had just seen. Her vision blurred with hot tears that streamed down her cheeks, her face twisted in a mask of sorrow and fury.
Ken was also perplexed by the sudden turn of event. "Are you for real?" He stared at Sion with furrowed brows. Because he knew this kinda thing would only break Anna's mind.
Sion could only reply with wry smile toward him. She also doesn't know how to approach this thing without breaking the heart of the girl.
The girl wants to know about her mom conditions, she can't hide it from her. It's all in her right and she also felt that it is better to inform her now rather than delaying it by lying.
Da Vinci who had been quietly observing the conversation, took a step forward, her hand lifting as if to interject. But she suddenly paused, her expression shifting to one of alarm.
Her eyes widened as she noticed the strange vibrations coursing through the room. The metallic objects around them—computers, chairs, even the chandeliers—began to shake and rattle violently. The mansion around them also trembled, causing everyone to stagger slightly.
The others also sense the weird movements before Sion glance back at Anna wrist. Sion's face turned pale as she glanced at the girl wrist. The device strapped to it—a special prototype CAD was emitting a faint, erratic light, signaling a malfunction. "Shit," she cursed under her breath. "The prototype can't hold on much longer!" Sion exclaimed before sending a look toward Ken.
"KEN!"
Ken's eyes widened in understanding. Without wasting a second, he sprang into action. In a blur of movement, he was already behind Anna, his expression was complicated. "Sorry girl, but I need you to sleep for now."
He gathered mana into his right palm, the magical energy swirling around his hand in a vibrant blue glow. With a swift motion, he struck the back of Anna's neck, aiming for a pressure point that would render her unconscious.
As soon as his hand made contact with her skin, he felt a sudden, sharp drain on his mana and vitality. The sensation was cold and terrifying. He winced as his skin paled, the vitality draining from him faster than he'd anticipated.
"Senpai!" Mash cried out, her eyes wide with shock. She lunged forward, instinctively trying to help, but stopped short, realizing the danger of touching Anna in her current state.
"Ken!" Daisy shouted, panic evident in her voice.
It caused Ken to stagger a bit, but at the same time the uncontrollable Anna also passed out because of his blow. As she was about to fall down, Ken was hesitating for a moment. Fearing the devouring power he just felt, he contemplating to whether should he catch her or not?
It was only for a moment before he chooses to grab the girl before she hit the floor hard. In this room, only him have a chance to survive from their contact. He couldn't let the other take the risk.
He flares his mana once more. The air around him crackled with energy as he activated his self-created Mana Burst, a crude technique fueled by the power of the Third Magic. A blue-silver aura burst forth, shimmering like liquid metal, creating a gust of wind that sent papers flying and rattled the chandeliers above.
The sudden outburst of power caused the others to step back, shielding their faces from the blinding light.
"Ken, you idiot!" Sion shouted over the noise, her voice laced with irritation. "You don't need to go all out! She's unconscious now; it's safe to touch her! The CAD on her wrist hasn't broken yet—it's still suppressing her power!"
Just as Sion voices is heard by him, he already had a contact with Anna. Ken blinked, momentarily confused as the words registered. He glanced down at Anna, cradled in his arms.
The device on her wrist was still flickering, its light steadying as it worked to seal her power. He was prepared to go into a coma with her but found out that he is fine.
"Eh?"
