Mo Yan had no idea how Liu Qingqing and Tie Tou got to know each other. According to Tie Tou, the two had developed feelings for each other, insisting that one wouldn't marry anyone but the other. She thought to herself that if she hadn't asked Liu Qingqing for help back then, Liu Qingqing might still be stuck in the Yanyu House and perhaps would never have met Tie Tou, which meant that the conflict that happened today between mother and son of the Wu family might have been avoided.
No one wishes for a daughter-in-law from a brothel, and Aunt Wu's reluctance doesn't necessarily mean she looks down on Liu Qingqing. It's likely more out of fear that if Brother Tie Tou married a woman with such a tainted background, they'd be crushed by all the gossip and slander they'd have to face.
Better to cut it off from the start than to end up resenting each other later on, sparing both parties future pain.
