Chapter 13

“We done?” Kord asked, fidgety and looking as if he’d explode if they didn’t leave soon.

“Done,” Doyle said and stood.

“Then let’s get going.”

As they moved toward the stairs, Doyle gave O’Brien a wink and a shrug. Jerry smiled. He understood, he always did, and Doyle was grateful for his friendship.

As they reached the stairs, Alexa Pulaski stepped onto the floor.

Issuing a wolf whistle, her gaze swept both of them head to toe. “Damn, you two must really heat up the sheets. Am I right?” Without saying another thing, she proceeded to sit at her desk and start working on something.

“I’ve had it,” Kord said as they exited the building and walked to the car.

“You’vehad it? I have to put up with that shit every day. Even worse. And none of it’s…” Doyle stopped himself. In his anger he’d almost said something he’d vowed never to tell. “If you’re too much of a snowflake to take a little heat, then maybe you should hand in your badge and gun and get the hell out now.”
