Chapter 5

Bella

Waking up, I looked at the time on the clock on my bedside,8:15. "What tha ….!!" I shouted and jumped out of my bed. Am super late.

I should have woken up about an hour ago. I ran to the boys bedroom to wake them up but I found the room totally empty.

"What is going on,am I dreaming?" I murmured to myself. I walked down the stairs to check if I would find them in the kitchen or perhaps the living room.

Maybe they woke up early and went to watch cartoons on the television, but that didn't happen to be the case. I saw them all seated round the dining table, already dressed for school.

They were having breakfast. Then I saw mum come out of the kitchen. "Sleepy head," she said to me with a warm smile. "Good morning mum" I said, hugging her.

"I didn't hear you come in this morning," I said again, still hugging her. "Well, someone must have been deep in a dream," she said with a loud laugh.

I let go of her and joined her to laugh out loud. Then the boys joined in. It was so joyous,I could not remember the last time we all laughed like this in the house.

Back when dad was still around,we laughed like this alot. Mum wasn't a good comedian but dad was,He always knew the right joke to use in every moment, even serious moments.

Like she was reading my thoughts, mum said to me "we are doing fine,go and prepare for school". "And don't worry about the boys,I will drive them to school myself" she added.

"Thank so much mum '' I said, then ran back upstairs to take my bath and prepare for school..

I was late for first period class, math, which was Mrs Sullivan's class. I walked in the classroom and stood at the door for a minute to get over anything she would have to say to me before I took my seat.

All my classmates went into a rowdy laugh as I walked in but Mrs Sullivan shouted at the students "silence!" and immediately, the whole class room became silent.

I know if anyone should laugh again,it would definitely echo. Then she looked at me,smiled and said "go and have your seat".

I got confused cause i was expecting her to scold me or at least say something about my lateness but she didn't so i walked and took the empty seat close to Lydia.

I'm sure she must have kept it for me. A very thoughtful friend. After math class, the second period was English class.

It was during the english class that i noticed Adam was not in school. During lunch break, I could finally talk to Lydia. "Why were you late today?" she said, that was the first question she asked me.

She was having Avocado and egg sandwich while I was having Summer rolls with peanut sauce. We were sitting close to the window in the cafeteria.

We like sitting here because it enables us to get a view of students outside, and also for fresh air. And it was also easy to access the restroom from here.

"I overslept,I was caught up in a dream," I said, responding to her question with a chuckle. "Dream? Hmm,I hope it wasn't about who I think it is?" she said, with a guessing look on her face.

"Well,it actually is," I responded. "That reminds me,I haven't seen him today" I said, while I was actually using my eyes to scan around the cafeteria hall and still couldn't find him.

"I was passing the principal's office and overheard a certain discussion" she said to me,with a guilty expression. "You were eavesdropping?" I said,I didn't know if I was asking or saying.

"I didn't eavesdrop,I just happened to hear the conversation" she said, this time with an innocent expression. "Stop nagging me or I will not tell you what I heard" she said.

"Okay, tell me what you heard" I bloated out. I was interested in whatever she had to say as long as it was about Adam.

"I heard his dad had a heart attack yesterday and was rushed to an emergency room in the hospital".she said, making sure she didn't say it out loud..

"Oh my God" I exclaimed and immediately used my hand to cover my mouth, knowing I might have been too audible. "Shhhhh, keep it low" she said, with her finger crossed right at the middle of her mouth.

"Do you know his dad is the CEO of the Chadwick family company?" she asked. "What is that?" I replied, with a confused expression on my face. "Bella, you need to keep up,for real," she said, with disappointment in her tone.

"Chadwick family company is the biggest company in the entire city of seattle,it is founded and currently owned by the multi billionaire,Mr Graham Chadwick" she said.

"And Adam is his only child," she added. "Wow,I never knew," I said. "Now you do,that is why you have me as a friend" she said, with a grin on her face.

."But honestly,I feel for him,he must be going through a lot right now" I said, sympathetically. "I wish I could be there for him right now," I added.

"All we can do now is pray and hope for the best," she said. "Ofcourse"I replied. After hearing a lot of things about Adam from Lydia,I felt the urge to talk to him.

So I decided that when he next comes to school, I would build the courage, walk up to him and have a conversation.

Even at this point,I had no idea of what I could even talk to him about. Definitely,it wouldn't be about his billionaire dad,his family name or anything related to what Lydia just told me.
