Booby Trap 2

Esmee took a deep breath after she closed her restaurant early. Marie had been allowed to go home. Now only she was left in the restaurant. Esmee sat in the middle of her restaurant while observing the atmosphere inside the restaurant.

The corners inside her restaurant reminded Esmee of her childhood memories. She spent time a lot of time in the restaurant. When teenagers her age are playing or hanging out together, Esmee prefers to help her mother in the restaurant. She was pleased to learn the recipes from generation to generation served in the restaurant.

Esmee unconsciously sobbed as she recalled all those memories. She then wiped the tears in the corners of her eyes and immediately turned to her room. Today she plans to find a part-time job to support her finances.

When Esmee turned around, she accidentally bumped into William, standing behind her. She lifted her head and looked at William. "You're not home yet?"

"I just finished cleaning up the leftovers in the kitchen," William replied.

Esmee nodded her head. "I thought you had gone home with the others."

"I was about to go home when I saw you were sitting here alone," William said.

William then noticed Esmee's red eyes. "You peeled onions until your eyes were red like that?"

Esmee chuckled in response to William's words. "Why would I peel onions when you can do it. Go home and rest while we close early."

William nodded his head. "Then I'm leaving."

Esmee nodded, and William walked away from the restaurant. Esmee waited until William had left before she stepped up the stairs to her living quarters above the restaurant. As soon as William was gone, Esmee went up to her residence on the second floor.

----

After a few steps from the restaurant, William turned back towards the restaurant. He slipped behind the restaurant and entered through the back door he hadn't locked after throwing away all the leftovers in the kitchen.

William peered into the restaurant through the small window to take food orders. When he was peeking into the restaurant, suddenly he heard footsteps from the stairs on the left side of the bar table.

William lowered his head. As soon as he heard the bell hanging above the restaurant door, he lifted his head again. William saw the silhouette of Esmee leaving the restaurant.

"Finally, she left. Now I can investigate what she is hiding in this place," William said.

William then exited the kitchen and walked towards the stairs leading to the restaurant's top. He glanced at the stairs for a moment and then stepped them up. Once at the end of the stairs, William was stunned to see the room above the restaurant.

"So that girl also lives in this place?" William muttered.

He noticed that Esmee used the upper room of the restaurant as a residence. A bed with an iron frame fills the corner of the room, a dining table set with two white wooden chairs, a place to wash hands, an old wooden wardrobe that looks weathered, and a bookshelf that looks crowded with belongings books.

William walked over to the wooden table flanked by two chairs. Esmee's laptop, a notebook, and leaflets were on the table. He chuckled as he read the sheet.

"So, she was trying to get a part-time job? If you're not stubborn, you don't have to bother like this," William said.

He then sat on the chair near the table and stared briefly at Esmee's laptop. "There must be something here."

William then opened Esmee's laptop and turned it on. He chuckled as the computer asked him to enter the password before he could operate it. William tapped his index finger while thinking about the possible password Esmee used.

William looked at the table. Suddenly, his eyes fell on the photo frame next to Esmee's laptop. He then took the photo and stared at it. After that, William turned it over and opened the back of the frame.

William's eyes narrowed as he saw a date on the back of the photo. "Could this be the password?"

William took a deep breath and entered the string of numbers he saw on the back of Esmee's photo to unlock Esmee's laptop. His face lit up as soon as the password worked, and he could use Esmee's computer now. William hurriedly tidied up Esmee's photo frame and placed it back next to the computer.

Afterward, he opened the files on Esmee's laptop one by one to look for important information related to D'Amelie's restaurant that she might not have known.

----

Esmee pulled up the coat she wore when she walked home from the club, where she applied for a part-time job. The slightly piercing cold air forced her to walk quickly to his restaurant.

"It's not even the end of autumn, but it's already cold," Esmee muttered as she continued walking towards her restaurant.

As soon as she arrived in front of the restaurant, Esmee opened the door and hurriedly entered it. She then locked the restaurant back and walked quickly to the top of the restaurant.

"Finally, I can rest." Esmee took off her coat and draped it on the hanger on the wall. After that, she went to bed and lay down.

Esmee had just laid down for a moment. Suddenly her cell phone rang. She immediately answered. "Bonjour."

"Esmee, it looks like tomorrow you can't pick up the raw materials for the restaurant at my place," said Anne, the woman who owns the grocery store where Esmee used to buy ingredients for her restaurant.

Esmee immediately frowned. "What's the matter, Anne? Why did you suddenly forbid me from shopping at your shop?"

"I'm sorry, Esmee. You can go back to shopping at my shop after you pay off all your arrears. After I counted, your arrears in my shop are quite large. I also need money to manage my shop," replied Anne.

Esmee took a deep breath while massaging the bridge of her nose. "Can I repay it? I'll pay half first. As long as I can keep buying raw materials for my restaurant."

"What about the other half?" asked Anne.

"I'll pay it off as soon as possible," replied Esmee.

"Then I'll allow you to pay off the balance before the thirtieth. You must pay in cash with a spending record after this."

Esmee took another deep breath. "Okay. Thank you for being so kind, Anne."

"I'm waiting for your payment."

Esmee put her cell phone back on the nightstand beside her bed. Afterward, she returned from her bed and walked over to her laptop. Esmee opened her computer and checked the remaining money in her savings account. She then sighed heavily. "This is my last stash."
