Chapter 3 : Newcomers are all monsters

Knight had traveled to this world a month ago.

He landed in Magnolia, the city where the Fairy Tail guild was located.

After receiving Internet Magic from the novice gift pack, Knight worked odd jobs while studying magic. Occasionally, he also relied on the free food distributed by Cardia Cathedral, which helped him save enough to rent a small place to live.

Now, with the house rented, he had less than 10,000J left in his pocket. He truly was the poorest of travelers.

However, things were starting to look up.

Having just joined Fairy Tail and becoming a wizard, he could finally start accepting commissions to make some real money.

Noon, Fairy Tail Guildhall.

Knight stepped into the guild, immediately hit by the bustling noise. The place felt more like a rowdy tavern than a wizard's guild. The hall was large enough to fit four or five basketball courts, and around the bar, a crowd gathered, shouting in excitement.

"Hey, Mirajane, let me play with that ring!"

"Can I try the Internet ring too?"

"Come on, don't hog it all to yourself, Mirajane!"

The crowd surrounded Mirajane, bombarding her with requests to try the magic.

She smiled apologetically, trying her best to pacify them. "This ring belongs to Knight. I can't just give it to you without his permission."

She continued, "I promised to return it once he arrives. If you're interested, go and ask him yourself."

Just then, someone from the crowd muttered, "Where is this new guy? I really want to meet him."

At that moment, Knight approached the bar, speaking loud enough for everyone to hear, "Once the ring is bonded to its owner's magic power, no one else can use it. Magic power is unique to each individual."

Mirajane looked up, smiling warmly. "You're finally here, Knight!"

Knight waved off her offer to return the ring. "No need to give it back. Consider it a gift for treating me to lunch."

"Really?" Mirajane's eyes sparkled with excitement.

Hearing this, the rest of the guild members immediately swarmed around Knight.

"Hey, new guy! I'm Macao."

"I'm Levy McGarden. Welcome to Fairy Tail, Knight."

"I'm Cana. So, any more of those rings? Maybe I could buy you a drink for one?"

Knight chuckled, recognizing some familiar faces from the original Fairy Tail story. Even though some were minor characters, they were all wizards—and that meant they would all be valuable users of his magic.

They were the perfect crowd to build his Internet empire!

"Good afternoon, everyone," Knight greeted. "As a thank-you for the warm welcome, I've brought rings for everyone."

He pulled out a cloth bag filled with magic rings, handing them out to anyone interested.

Within minutes, the bag was nearly empty, with only a few rings left.

After the initial rush settled, Mirajane approached him with a plate of food. "You must be hungry. I made this for you."

Knight grinned, accepting the food. "Thanks, Mirajane."

As he ate, Mirajane sighed. "You've given away all those rings… don't tell me you're broke now."

Knight smirked. "That's why I'm relying on you to feed me, remember?"

"Fine. As long as you're at the guild, I'll make sure you're well-fed!" she teased with a smile. When Knight pushed the remaining rings toward her, she tilted her head, confused.

"What are you doing?"

"If anyone else wants a ring later, please give it to them for me."

The guild had hundreds of members, and only a fraction had shown up that day. With some 20 or 30 rings left, Knight entrusted Mirajane to distribute the rest.

"I think the greatest feature of the Internet is sharing," he explained between bites.

"Sharing?" Mirajane echoed.

Knight nodded. "Exactly. Take magic books, for example. Normally, you'd have to go to the library and search through categories to find the one you need. But I'm working on adding a 'Library' feature to the Internet, where anyone can upload books, whether they're magic manuals or adventure novels."

"That way, anyone with a ring can find what they're looking for in seconds."

Mirajane's eyes sparkled with admiration. "That's… a brilliant idea! Sharing knowledge to benefit everyone."

Knight shrugged. "It's easier said than done. I ran into some trouble last night while developing the feature. I want users to be able to scan books page by page and upload them to the Internet, but I'm still figuring it out."

Mirajane smiled softly. "You're in luck. There's a book on scanning magic in the guild's library."

"Really? Can I go check it out?"

"Not quite," Mirajane replied with a chuckle. "Only S-class wizards are allowed on the second floor where the library is. But don't worry, I'll go get it for you."

Knight watched her head up the stairs to the second floor. While waiting, he glanced over at the commission board, where various tasks were posted for wizards to accept.

"I need to start making some real money," he thought, scanning the job postings. "I wonder if there's a high-paying mission."

The board was filled with requests—defeating monsters, escorting caravans, recovering lost items. The rewards ranged from 50,000J to 300,000J, but none seemed particularly lucrative.

Knight's thoughts drifted to an S-class mission he remembered from the story.

"Wasn't there one where you go to a cursed island and break the curse? If I recall, the reward was 7 million J, plus a Zodiac Key."

It seemed like an easy enough mission if he used his Vibration Magic to destroy the curse source—after all, one punch from his quake magic could destroy an entire island.

"Too bad I'm not allowed to take S-class missions yet," Knight muttered, frustrated. He briefly considered asking Mirajane for a favor, but knew she would never agree to something so dangerous for a newcomer.

Just then, a familiar voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Ahem… Are you the new wizard, Knight?"

Knight turned and saw a small, elderly man with a kind smile stretching out his hand.

"Hello, newcomer! I'm Makarov, the guild master."

Knight recognized him instantly. "Good afternoon, Master Makarov."

Makarov chuckled warmly. "I've heard about you from Mirajane. Your Internet Magic is quite the marvel. Did you develop it yourself?"

Knight shook his head modestly. "I just built on existing knowledge, standing on the shoulders of giants."

Makarov waved off the modesty. "There's no need for humility. This magic is revolutionary. Bringing people closer, even across vast distances—it's the work of a true genius!"

The guild master's praise was genuine. He had immediately recognized the transformative potential of this new magic after seeing Mirajane's demonstration earlier that day.

"I've also heard you're a bit short on funds," Makarov continued. "Internet Magic doesn't seem suited for combat, so completing commissions might be difficult for you."

Knight's eyes lit up. "Actually, Master, I know another magic as well."

Makarov raised an eyebrow. "You know two types of magic?"

Without hesitation, Knight demonstrated by lightly punching the air with his right fist.

Boom!

The atmosphere cracked as if it were glass, and the ground beneath them trembled.

Makarov stumbled, barely maintaining his balance as he stared at Knight in shock.

Not only was the newcomer a genius—he was a monster.
