Chapter 19 - Abandoned Mine
In view of the many mines that abounded our path, I interview some goblins who had chosen to live in these abandoned places. For the most part, I exercised my fireball formula and decimated their troops. I gained 2 levels in mastery of the fireball and it had still grown.
My resistance to heat had also gained a level and I no longer felt my skin burn every time I threw an arcane ball. Then one of the nobles said to me:
You seem to have mastered fire management well, do you know other formulas?
"I can create a spirit of fire that can help me fight and I have a combat capability hand-to-hand," I thought.
And what restlessness do you have of the 'mirique' when you throw them?
«Mirique? I'm not sure I understand»
"Let me explain"
«The mirique represents the agitation of the mana in a body, the higher it is, the more powerful and unleashed the spells, the weaker it is, the easier the complex formulas become and the more precise the spells»
"Oh I think I got it"
«Notification! Skill [understanding the world] is gaining a level. Current level: 4, unlocking the magic store at level 5»
A magic store? What could it mean? I'll get an address? I paid no more attention and concentrated on trying to perceive the 'mirique'. We continued to advance in this thick fog, mercenaries constantly expecting an attack in these forgotten lands. I still could not perceive the 'mirique ' when I realized that I had 20 attribute points available from the City of Wolves. I reflected on their distribution and then spread them as follows: 5 points in Wisdom, 10 points in Intelligence and 5 points in Agility. I had gained enough strength through my training. In this way, I had 22 points in Intelligence and I felt my mana grow as well as my wit. Soon after, I finally controlled the mirique. I had always had a very calm mirique which made my spells precise but not very powerful. I had to find a way to have a mirique both calm and restless which seemed like a real challenge in view of my non-existent knowledge on the subject.
Now we were facing one last mine before we got to our first stop. It housed a 6m high Mountain Orc, it came out of the mine, looked at us at length as I prepared my formulas and returned to its den. Why the monsters didn't attack us, the situation became more and more strange to me.
It was 3pm when we arrived at the mine, I detected a certain arcane aura that announced many riches.
"Take them out and collect the magic crystals, we'll leave the loot in the wagon while you explore the mine. I think you will finish mining in 2 days, the mine will wait» says the noble in green clothes.
At first some inferior monster came to venture into the surroundings. I dealt with it without worry.
It was during these fights that I discovered something: a horde of 10 goblins with 3 mounts of black wolves had come to meet me. The fight was fierce and there were 3 goblins around me, one attacked me in the back and I inadvertently activated the [mental barrier] skill, a thin layer had been attached around my body and I did not feel the blow. This protective barrier had protected me easily! Then they continued to attack me. At the end of the sixth attack, the barrier broke in a sound of broken glass and I killed them with surgical strike. I had then discovered an effective self-defense, as long as my mental source had etheric waves, I could maintain a powerful and thick barrier.
We finished harvesting the crystals and then prepared to enter the mine. There were 15 lower levels and many winding corridors. Fortunately for us, one of the mercenaries had an object of the found-way type that could determine the fastest path to a specific place. He set it up successfully and we just had to follow the road.
