Twentieth Ranked Devil King

Leo was in his room, and scrutinized the map thoroughly.

According to the map, there was only two Continents in this world. Little was known about the other continent, but in this continent, there were three major human empires, and dozens of large and small kingdoms.

The Barbarians were to the north, but the invasion of the Devil's had cut down their once glorious civilization to a few remnants, or tribes.

The Ancient Battlefield took up more than forty percent of the continent, and left Leo wondering on how truly massive this continent was. Based on his estimation, it was at the very least much, much larger than Earth.

Leo brought down his head and studied the Aberration Encyclopedia that was also given by Kendrick.

A short while later, he packed his remaining belongings and hung the saber he bought for a few Silver Coins by his waist and headed out.

'Cheers to a new life.'

...

The Ancient Battlefield.

A cesspool of endless fighting.

A barren wasteland full of pockmarks and craters that stretched on for tens of thousands of miles.

Deep in this place, hordes of Aberrations and Devil's roamed free.

Harsh conditions made it impossible for ordinary humans and even weaker Warlocks to survive here, as the clash between Gods and Devil's had made this place a living hell.

Only the best of the best Warlocks were able to make it this far.

In this kind of place, amongst the howling winds, two masked figures stood side to side on a hill.

The first had completely grey hair with a hint of an eerie purple on it, and black eyes with a purple undertone.

The second had dark orange hair, with a glowing sword shaped tattoo in the middle of his brows.

If someone had been present, they would have exclaimed in excitement, s bothe of them were Warlocks of the GodKing of Death and the GodKing of War and Destruction respectively. Moreso, they were Divine Warlocks.

"Celeste, are you sure he's coming?" The orange haired figure asked the other in a low voice.

" We are going to get in a lot of trouble if the God's or other Warlocks find out what we are here to do."

"I told you to call me No.3 when we get here", No.3 said grimly.

"And yes, that personage is going to come soon, so be quiet. Remember, your codename is No.19."

The orange haired figure nodded his head in acceptance.

Right when they finished speaking, the raging winds suddenly came to a standstill.

Their pupils instantly shrank as a figure appeared in front of them instantly.

The figure was hooded and tightly robed, but even from several meters away, one could still make out glowing purple eyes and an exposed chin that was oddly grey.

``This clone can't be kept for much longer, so I'll keep it short.``

An inhuman voice reached their ears.

The figure did not speak any language that the duo were familiar with, but they still instantly understood him. The voice that seemed to be a combination of many others, reeking of chaos and insanity, spoke directly to the soul.

This was the Devil language.

The expressions of the two men behind the two men behind their masks turned grave in an instant, as they became on guard.

Even though this was just a clone, they felt a hint of threat, as the existence it belonged to could annihilate them with a single thought.

``Is this the new one?`` the hooded figure asked, looking directly at No.19.

Being stared at by those purple eyes, No.19 felt a chill down his spine. The emotion behind those eyes was as if looking at a plate of food. He felt like he was a helpless rabbit being eyed by a ferocious predator.

"Yes, Sire." No.3 answered courteously.

The hooded figure nodded slightly in return.

``Truly, I don't know what it is with you humans. You are willing to betray your God's and even your race, just to possess greater power.``

The hooded figure sneered in contempt, ridiculing them.

The pair remained silent. The hooded figure snorted and said to No.19.

``Let me just tell you how this works. I will implant a Distorted Seed in you, and it will gradually 'purify' the Divine Essence of your GodKing in your body, increasing your power and making you one of my emissaries. Of course, you will have to complete various sabotage missions for me.

Are you willing?`` The hooded figure asked plainly.

This was more of a rhetoric since the outcome had been decided the moment he came here.

No.19 nodded hurriedly.

With a wave of the figure's hand, a ball of translucent flesh, with a purple mote of light in the middle, appeared out of thin air.

It was continuously writhing, and maddening whispers permeated the air as soon as it appeared. In a flash, it rushed into No.19' s chest, bypassing the cloth, flesh and bone as if it was illusory.

He suddenly roared, an orange-red aura originating from him and spreading around a forty meter radius.

It quickly disappeared, but before it did, one could see purple spots appear in it.

The hood of the mysterious figure was blown away by the violent wind brought about by the aura, revealing a grey bald face, with purple markings from the corner of his eyes to the rest of his body.

He had purple eyes and no nose, but there was a smile on his face that literally reached his ears, revealing rows and rows of terrifyingly sharp pearly white teeth.

`We Devils shall take over this world, and we are everlasting. For I am the twentieth ranked Devil King, Scythe!`

The figure dissolved into nothingness, leaving behind only a faint sentence that reeked of madness.

``Serve me well! HAHAHAHA!!!``

***

By now, you guys should have realized that purple is automatically associated with the Devils.

Can anyone guess what role Kendrick has to play in all of this?

I decided to make this chapter focus less on Leo and try to just give the book a new perspective. Let me know in the comments below what you think.
