“If only there had been a second chance! I will love you with all my heart!” Katherine closed the eyes of her one and only son with tears of blood in her eyes. Katherine, the second wife of the emperor Christian De Fasanovia, did everything to make sure that her son would be the emperor. So when her other concubines attacked the crown prince, she closed her eyes. Her only goal was to save her son and for that she wanted him to be emperor, the ultimate power and authority. On the day her husband died, she was more than happy, as the crown prince was already dead and now only her son was left! With the crown in her hands, she went to welcome the new power only to see him drinking poison by himself with a cold smile on his face. “If I get another chance, I never want you to be my mother!” He closed his eyes with hatred towards his cold and cruel mother only to open his eyes when he was 5 again. But why is his mother behaving differently this time? Was it a dream or he just woke up from one?
"......" the kids stared at her and then at their father.
Both are behaving weird according to them or were having a nightmare.
"Your majesty, you are having breakfast with us?" Just as the words left their mouths, the temperature rose and they felt a burning sensation in their body only to see that their mother was seething with anger.
It looked like she had eaten something bitter which she was neither able to swallow or spit it out. It felt like she would vomit.
While their eyes were so cold , the father who treated words and time like a rare treasure and never spent time with them even when they went to the central palace was here to have breakfast with them so early in the morning.
Did he not have his training today?
"Yes, since I came to know that you both have left your palace and started living with your mother.
I came to be a part of the get together too. Why? Are you not happy that I visited?" 'just like your mother!' even their faces looked gloomy the moment they heard he was going to spend time with them.
He never noticed before but it felt like his whole family did not want him around them anymore. When has the situation turned out like this?
He feigned ignorance of their dull reaction and unwillingness to spend time with him and took the lead to walk out when he heard Len speaking.
"Your majesty, what happened to your hand?" he halted for a second and then started walking slowly to not show that he was listening.
"Aah, it's nothing. I sometimes forget about my own strength. I exerted a bit too much force on my cup and it broke.
I did not realize that one of its shards pierced my hands since I was so engrossed in the conversation with his majesty.
But it's all bandaged. It will be fine soon." she replied with a smile to make sure that Len did not worry when Luci was only staring at her as if it was her trick.
This boy is too suspicious for his age. She shook her head when Luci elbowed Len, too tired to care what he was conspiring now.
Suddenly she felt like her hands were getting fuller. In her last life, she did not have a single person around her so she always had time for politics but now.. She felt like she was getting more and more entangled when her task was simple.
To live a simple and good life with her kids.
"My lady, it would not be good to keep his majesty waiting." The knights he had brought with her were already gone and the kids were looking at her with confusion as she continued to stand at her place and grit her teeth.
"Yes!" was all she said as she took the lead and both boys followed her.
Len glared at Luci when he tried to tug his shirt scaring him in the process. He wanted to tell Len how his mother was trying to behave hard to get and must have injured herself to gain the attention but the glare was filled with the threat to beat him later that he stopped in his tracks.
He could see how Len was in the dilemma of trusting her majesty or him but it was okay. He was sure that his mother would continue to make mistakes now that his father was here.
Then he would show Len that he should not let his guards down. But he wondered what made his father personally visit his mother.
As much as he was wary of his mother. He only hated his father. And if he was here to hurt his mother, he was not letting him do so this time since that was what had made her evil in the past life.
He was going to protect Len from his mother but also his mother from the cruelty of his father.
With their own thoughts in their mind, the family of four reached the dining room and sat on their seats.
"My lady, shall I change the menu for breakfast?" the head maid whispered in the ears of Katherine since she had only chosen sweet dishes for the breakfast.
Everyone in the empire knew that Chris did not like sweet food and often avoided it.
The thought brought a wide smirk on the face of Katherine.
"Why? It would take some time and his majesty did not like to wait.
Since he had already said that he would bear with the sub bar quality of my palace then I am sure that he would not mind the menu I have chosen.
He is a kind man, right, your majesty?" she asked with a sweet and flattering smile on her face.
As if the raging and gloomy dark clouds had suddenly left the sky and the spring had arrived with a bright rainbow there. Her personality changed that much suddenly that he blinked.
He who had seen the politics all his life was sure that it was her trick and she had a plan but in front of the eyes of so many knights and his kids, he could not refuse from his own words.
He nodded his head slowly, still thinking in his mind what this woman wanted from him. It was so easy to read her thoughts all this time but now.. She was being so difficult as if it was a completely different person in front of him.
He was not sure if she was acting now to be sweet or was acting before to hate his presence.
"See, i knew that he would not make a fuss over this small matter. Bring the dishes and serve his majesty with the largest pieces." he tilted his head to understand what she meant by largest pieces when she smiled widely like a Cheshire cat.
"Thank you for having a meal with us, your majesty."
