Chapter 4 Mercy

Life had flashed before his eyes. Raol saw the face of his mother and his father. He recalled the beautiful moments in his life during the slash. However, to his surprise, Mery didn't kill him.

She dulled her sword with her mana and cut off his consciousness. Raol didn't feel anything as he fell to the ground. His sword and armor made a thumping sound as he hit the ground.

" Apprehend him. He isn't guilty of death because he was following his lord's command. He is an honorable man."

Mery said, glancing at her knights. The knights immediately followed her order except for the vice-captain. She was dissatisfied with her decision, but she yielded for once. She knew her objective wasn't Raol instead it was the lord's family. She was here to deal with them before things go south.

" Hum, it seems the fight ended before my arrival."

Ragnar approached them while riding his horse. His soldiers followed behind them as they showed neat formation. Unlike the knights, their faces were void of any emotion because they were weapons and the vanguard of the entire kingdom.

" Let's go to the castle together."

Mery said, pointing at the dark castle. She looked around and saw the citizens that were hiding from them. It is like they were the aggressors, not the lord himself. Mery showed her struggles as she clenched her fists.

Touch*

She felt a hand on her shoulder and knew who was the owner. Ragnar was telling her to calm herself down. His eyes were darting between the vice-captain and her since he knew identity of her.

" It is fine, honey. It is just a momentary thing. Don't worry, I will keep my mood inside me."

Mery assured him. They had only one mission before her retirement. She was only one step away from escaping from this role.

" Shoot them!"

The guards yelled at them while pointing their guns at them. Mery sighed with sadness as she slashed her sword toward them.

Boom, Splash*

The walls were dyed red from their blood. Flesh and blood splattered everywhere, creating a river in the streets. Ragnar didn't say anything.

He was feeling complicated inside. He didn't mind killing foreigners, but the soldiers of his home country were different. Especially, they were loyal and brave soldiers.

They passed through the gates with sheer force as they reached their destination. They opened the last gate and looked at the man who was sitting on the throne. He was looking at them with a calm gaze and he was holding his spear which was engraved with golden insignia.

" Ragnar, Mery, long time no see. I never thought my executors would be the famous duo of the kingdom. It is an honor to spend my last moment in your hands."

The duke bowed his head, showing his sharp gaze. He tightened his grip and burst out with incredible mana. His blonde hair and a golden crown was illuminating the entire hall with its brilliance.

" Your majesty, Duke Arnold. It is an honor to end your life. Please rest assured, we will keep your family away from this."

Mery said, promising to spare his family. Arnold smiled gently at her words as he charged towards them. Ragnar and Mery ignited their powers as they clashed with him. Within a minute, the fight had ended. High leveled individuals didn't need that much time to settle their battle. Furthermore, they intended to decide this battle in a single clash.

Drip*

Arnold looked at them with a bright expression for the last time. He knew he had lost in this duel as he closed his eyes with peace.

" Please rest well. I will never forget your grace."

Ragnar spoke, closing his eyes with respect. He remembered the tall back of the old duke who was famous for his patriotic heart and an image of the young duke who was loved by everyone. Although he doubted the fact that the duke was a traitor, he didn't have a choice but to follow the royal decree.

Crash*

Suddenly, they heard a sound of fighting in the living quarter. Their faces immediately lost their cool as they ran towards the living area.

" No! It can't be them!"

Mery said, showing her anxiety about the situation.
