Chapter 20 Reason
Licht pondered for a moment. Honestly, he hadn't thought about this before. In the past, his mother had said this before, but it was only summary about holy light church's decline.
Holy church was the biggest force in the continent 200 years ago. Their power and influence were strong enough to topple any countries in this world. However, that changed when their leaders were killed during ' Dark War '.
This was the biggest war after the last battle of myths.
Saint of the holy church succumbed into the dark force and turned himself into a lich. His power was so terrible that he killed both his master and pope by himself. He gathered an army of dead and attacked the holy capital.
Holy capital fell after 2 years of hard battle, and it turned into ruins. Once a great city, changed into a ruin filled with undead. No light could reach this place following transcendence of the lich king.
He transformed this place into living hell which named " Capital of the ruined ". Outside this story, Licht had no knowledge about holy light church.
Regina's eyes focused on his face and body. She opened her drawer and took out a book.
" This is the truth about their extinction. Although their headquarters were destroyed by the lich king, Holy Light church managed to rebuild their power. However, something unexpected happened 150 years ago. Their internal civil war split their forces into 2 factions. One advocated old doctrine while other changed their name into Church of God of Light. They worshiped a new God."
Licht was shocked to hear such news. He thought it was illogical to change their beliefs into a whole new God. He would have accepted it if they changed their testaments.
" But this is illogical. Why would do they choose a new God over their beliefs, and why did former faction fell down?"
Regina smiled because she was satisfied with his reaction.
" Good question. They changed their beliefs because saintess was chosen by the god of light. She received the blessing from him, not from the light. Therefore, she left the church with her followers. As for their fell, it was natural. Their influence was weakened enough to be eaten by other churches like church of war, church of water… etc."
Viktor sighed in Licht's mind. His eyes were filled with sadness and remorse. In fact, he was a believer of the church. In his period, the church gave people hope and power. They illuminated humanity's path with great forces.
Unfortunately, time has corroded the church itself. There was no chance to escape from the chains of the fate. He sighed once again and sharpened his mind.
" Licht, remember your goal. History isn't essential. We have to learn new spells."
Licht woke up from his thoughts. He coughed and looked at Regina with a serious gaze.
" Um, I need new spells."
Regina smacked her lips. She pulled out her pen as she wrote something on the paper. She handed her pen to Licht.
Licht signed on the document. He bit his finger and dropped his blood drop because this is a rule in the military. They require blood to verify the document is either real or forged.
Regina confirmed the document after glimpsing at his signature. She placed it on her documents.
" All done. Any other questions?"
Licht shook his head with a serious look. He came here to inquire about the spells. Hence, he successfully completed his task.
" No, ma'am. I will excuse myself."
Regina nodded after seeing his face. She carefully observed his uniform.
" Ah, come here."
Licht was puzzled by her words. He stood next to the table where Regina could reach him.
Creak*
Regina got up from her seat. She touched his collar and fixed it with a smile.
" You need to be careful with your uniform. I almost forgot, you might receive basic spells. So, don't expect much. Especially, you are just a vice captain of a small squad."
Licht saluted with respect. He straightened his back to show his etiquette.
" I understand. Thank you, ma'am."
Regina burst with laughter. Her blue eyes gazed at him one final time with interest. She was looking forward to meeting this young man again.
