6. Task 1

Spidey and Ghost swing their way towards the New York harbor. The night sky is clear and vibrant, and New York's streets were lit up in contrast. According to the files, that's where the trafficking ring last took place. More than likely they'd be staying there for another few weeks before finding a new place to do their crime.

'I really just realized it now, but Korra is pretty cool, isn't she?' says Ghost. 

'Duh', replies Spidey making Ghost roll her eyes. 

'What I mean is Korra was a literal Avenger. Even if she keeps saying she wasn't. She's an actual superhero. I bet she saved the world a whole bunch of times and we don't even know it'. 

Spidey went quite for a while. Gwen speaks. 'You just realized it just now, didn't you? Dummy'.

They both laugh and tease each other as the swing their way towards their destination. Then, they stop as they reach the harbor and climb their way up towards a somewhat conspicuous warehouse. 'There's three people guarding this side', says Ghost, scanning the east side of the harbor. 'Scratch that. There's another two near the tower. Five people total'.

Spidey nods. 'Three more on the west. And I can feel a bunch more of them in the warehouse. I think they're moving some boxes. Contraband?'

'Well, considering how tense things are down there. Definitely our criminals'. 

The two of them finds an open window and quietly crawls inside. As they look around, they find a group of armed men walking around the place. In the middle of it all, they saw a group of frightened workers moving containers from one place to the other.

The radio echoes around the warehouse, drowning out the noise of the struggling workers. '-but Avengers quickly responded to the emergency with the help of the X-men. They subdued Sabertooth and save the congressman from-', they hear it say on the radio.

'That's so cool', says Ghost. What's gonna be our first mission like when we join the Avengers? Take down Hydra? Do a face off with Hulk?'

'I dunno. I like Hulk. I think he's just misunderstood', replies Spidey.

'Yeah. He's also pretty gullible. And I'm pretty sure he was mind controlled by Professor X a bunch of times. Back when they were still fighting the X-men, at least'.

Spidey nods. 'Yeah, true. I remember on the news when him and Iron Man had to-'.

'GET A MOVE ON!' yells one of the crooks, cutting the heroes conversation. 

'Wow, they're really going for the 'low-tier crime gang' act, aren't they?' says Ghost.

'What can I say? You can't beat the classics', says Spidey. 'All they need now is a good smackdown and it'll be just like in the comics. So, ready to hand it to em?'

Ghost nods and the two of them hid themselves in the shadows.

One of the workers trip, dropping the container. The crook yells at him and raises his hand, ready to throw a punch. Before his fist could land on the man, it was quickly stopped by a white-gloved hand. 'You know, you should treat your employees better', says Ghost before throwing the crook to the floor. The criminal quickly stands back up to shoot her but she was was already gone. At this point, all the crooks are on alert. The workers scramble to the side, hoping the coming chaos wouldn't involve them. 

'WHO THE HELL ARE YOU? SHOW YOURSELVES', roars the criminals as they huddle together, ready to shoot anything that moves.

Ghost and Spidey giggles as they hide themselves in the shadows. 'We're from the Union. Wanted to do a survey on how well essential workers get treated nowadays', says the female voice.

'Yeah', says the male one. 'And from the looks of it, I think we'll have to give you an F. This place doesn't even have a working air conditioner'. Suddenly, a large heavy box, the air conditioner, flies out of nowhere and nearly crashes towards the criminals They all manage to jump away except for who got hit in the chest, knocking him out of the fight. The rest of the crooks shoot at the shadows, not even bothering to check if anything was there. 

'Dude, can you even aim?' The voice comes from behind them. Before they could turn, Spidey and Ghost quickly punches the ones closest to them. Spidey webs a gun and pulls it, throwing the metal object into another crook's face. Ghost sees another crook aiming his gun towards the other hero. She webs the criminal's feet and pulls, making him land on his face. 'Bad', she tells him. 'No shooting my boyfriend'.

The two of them fight the criminals with much agility, dodging bullets and blocking attacks. Ghost and Spidey web them all together and making them all hang upside down on the ceiling. 'Yep, all in a days work', says Spidey. 

They then go towards the worker to calm them. 'It's alright. You're safe now', says Ghost with a calming voice. The two guide them outside when suddenly both of their spidey-sense told them to run. Spidey and Ghost notice the red blinking light next to one of the dropped crate. He tries to pull as many as he can to safety but it was all to late. A bang echoes through the warehouse and the two heroes were ready to face the inevitable. 

'Poof'.

Ghost and Spidey look around to realize that they weren't blown to smithereens. 'What the-'.

They then see the solid dirt pyramid where all the containers used to be. '8 out of 10 for stopping the bad guys. Zero for failing to save the civilians', says a voice behind them. The two heroes turn and find the tall woman smiling at them with a cigarette on her mouth. 

'Korra. When did you-' Spidey is about to ask. 

'The whole time. I'm overseeing you, remember?' she says. 

'Did you do that?' he asks next. 

'Who else could it have been?' 

Spidey and Ghost walk towards the pyramid now standing in the middle of the warehouse. From the looks of it, everyone else, even the criminals hanging on the ceiling, are shocked. 

'You should get those civilians to safety', orders Korra as she punches through the pyramid to make a whole. She then goes inside to find everything inside turned to dust. 'Well, nothing much for evidence' she says until she finds a small shard on the floor. She picks it up and puts it on a plastic bag. 

'Alright kids', she says to the two heroes. 'Give your report to the cops and make sure the civilians are safe. I'll go over to SHIELD and have this thing tested out'. 

'What is it?' asks Ghost as she and Spidey take a peek at the bag. 

'Not sure. I'll have it analyzed and we can go from there. Do what you're told and meet me back at my place. Clear?'

Ghost and Spidey nods at the woman and head towards the people. Korra looks at the shard one more time before the ground opens up and swallows her.

Out in the distance, an old bald man watched all the events unfold with his binoculars. He strokes his beard contemplatively, then drops the kill switch he had on his hand before crushing it with his foot. 'Damn meddling fools', he says with a sigh.

Hi everyone. Hope you're liking this story so far. I'm taking my time with this one and want the pacing to not be rushed. I'm currently learning how to write a better fight scene. Reading from other fanfic writers would definitely help on this. Any suggestions on a good story?
