"OH MY GOD"
A girl screams running up to the boy soaked in blood.
The hospital that the boy was placed in was in the middle of nowhere. It was situated between two villages. Notice the past tense in this sentence, there are no villages around there anymore.
The boy had to walk a long way before he found a small house on the edge of a village that extended behind it.
"Are you alright?" the girl asks, looking worried.
"FUCK NO" the boy screams through gritted teeth.
"Right, that was a stupid question" the girl replies, a little shocked "Well then, lets go inside"
The purple eyed boy wakes up to a very grey morning and the smell of warm porridge. As he opens his eyes he can finally see the girl from the day before clearer.
She has light brown hair that is in a braid and freckles on her face. Her eyes are green. Such a typical look, she was just like any other girl, just the opposite of him.
"Oh, you're awake" the girl says, setting a plate of food down on to a table in front of the boy.
"Hope you're feeling better" she continued "I'm Kayla, by the way"
There is a slight pause. The girl looked at the boy, expecting an introduction. None came.
"Well?" Kayla asks "Aren't you gonna introduce yourself?"
The boy stands up and extends his hand "I'm Edward"
Kayla shakes it "Nice to meet you, Edward"
"So where did you come from Edward?" Kayla says, putting another plate on the table.
Edward looks around the room. It looks like the girl lives alone. It's a small house with two rooms, a bathroom and a big room with a bedroom and a kitchen. There are many weapons and animal skinn hung on the wall that suggest Kayla is into hunting.
For some reason something about this environment felt comforting to Edward. Maybe this was because it was similar to the way he used to live, or maybe it was the complete opposite. One thing is certain though; it takes a lot to make someone with a background like Edwards to trust someone.
"I came from the far East, mount OZ. You've heard of the massacres haven't you? The soldiers came and killed everyone. I'm the only survivor"
"Mount OZ? A very ironic name huh?" Kayla replies
Edward looks up at her "Yeh, mount Hell would suit it better"
There is a moment of silence
"So they're after you now, right? The soldiers, the Elementals?" Kayla asks
"Of course, wouldn't let a rat live" Edward answers "We should have ran when we had the chance, but people who have lived in one place for so long wouldn't be able to leave in such a hurry"
Kayla looks at him but doesn't say anything for a long time. Finally she pats his back and sits down at the table.
"I hope things work out for you. Cheer up buddy" she says
They eat in silence. Warm porridge only ever tastes good when you are starving to death. Then Kayla puts all the plates away and Edward stands up.
"Thank you for your help, but I'll have to leave now" Edward says, taking his rifle
"Seriously? But it's so boring here, there's no one her to talk to! Stay!" Kayla whines
"I'm sorry, but the first place they'll look for me is here. I have to leave as soon as possible" Edward says coldly, heading for the door.
Kayla tugs his sleeve "Don't leave" she whispers "I'm always alone, I have no family"
Edward doesn't look at her "Me neither"
As Edward heads out of the house Kayla runs in front of him and shoves something into his chest wrapped in a napkin.
"Don't open it now" she says "Open it later"
Edward gives a slight nod and walks past her.
That was the end of it, no goodbye, no thank you. Call it what you will, they only knew each other for two days, but from my point of view it was like a stranger walking out of a stranger's house.
