The War of Boefician ended hundred years ago. The war was called as such because it lead to the annihilation of the Boeficians, a race that worshipped war. Each one of them were huge and stood three meters tall. They were the descendants of white giants. For the Boeficians war was not only a ritual but a sport as well. Once they came of age it was mandatory for the 'fledglings' to kill a full grown warrior from each race. They killed pillaged and waged war on anyone and without reason.
In the end the Boeficians faced the collective wrath of all races. The humans, elves, beast-men, goblins, trolls and even the hateful daemons allied together to defeat and destroy the Boeficians. Their lands were ravaged and their armies were pushed to the edge of Krafkans -- the volcano of greens. The lava of Krafkans turned anything that came in touch with it to become plants. Where the lava flowed forests sprung up, full of vitality, life and rebirth. One by one the Boeficians turned to trees. Those that fell down the crater of Krafkans got their vitality absorbed and reduced to husks of themselves.
But the war was not without significant losses to the allied races. Boeficians born in the blood of countless wars provided a resistance that wiped out more than half of the entire allied races. Blood of all ran like rivers. Each adult Boefician could only be brought down by sacrificing tens of warriors of the allies. Even the fledglings, young and old put up considerable struggle. Dying in battle was considered a glory for them and each one fought to their deaths.
The course of war changed drastically in favour of the allies when the direction of advancement of the war pushed Boeficains to the crater of Krafkans. The death of turning into plants and vitality to nourish the evergreen Krafkans made the Boeficians feel fear. Boeficians never feared death. They believed the death in war will bring them to Qadfingure -- the paradise of the white giants. They feared that the lava of Krafkans will deny them the entry to Qadfingure and imprison them for all eternity in a tree.
The leader of the Boeficians Rand'al Boar made a choice, history recalls it as the 'Black notice'. Rand'al Boar made the choice to corrupt the evergreen Krafkans. For that he shamed himself, an honourable warrior to do the most heinous of all crimes - stabbing in the back of the entire race. On the night of black notice Rand'al Boar and his trusted generals poisoned the waters of Boeficians and killed all the young'uns and unborn in their mothers wombs. They became the first corrupted. The skin of Rand'al Boar and his generals blackened, a sign that the white giants has forsaken them. There will be no place for them in Qadfingure. With the hope their race attains salvation, the corrupted jumped to their deaths into Krafkans. The vitality of Krafkans surged and the green lava showed signs of change, a change no one noticed until it was too late.
The allies were surprised the next day of Black notice. They felt no resistance whatsoever. When they marched into the Boefician stronghold they saw a site so gruesome that even the veterans of war belched and vomited. The poisoned and dismembered bodies of giant Boeficians young, old, male and female alike were strewn in a huge circle around the chiefs tent, hundreds of thousands of them. Inside the tent was a letter written in blood by Rand'al Boar.
"To the allies who denied us the chance of a glorious death, I hope this letter find you in good health. I have decided to gift this world with redemption. One that will bring horrors to this world. A horror that you yourself built. A horror from which you cant run."
The face of the allies were filled with an expression of fear. Fear of the unknown. One can defend against a sword drawn in front. But what can one do against a dagger drawn in the dark. Signs of darkness and corruption filled the tent. It was a magic never seen before in the entire plane of Gaia. The leaders of the allies sealed the entire site and turned it into a megalith -- a large burial ground. Stone pillars with sealing runes were erected in a circle around the megalith and a Council of Caretakers were created with all the races as members in the grounds of the megalith to report any changes.
The allies felt they had done everything to prevent whatever Rand'al Boar plotted yet they never expected the danger was not near the megalith at all. The danger was brewing far north in the mountain of Krafkans. A danger that far exceeded the wildest imagination of any.
