Embers of Power (9)

After that meeting with that crazy, lab lady, George went time and time again to that abandoned place to train and to learn how to use his ability, using the new information he got not long ago. He wasn't able to get a hold of control over his newfound abilities. Tried thinking of happy, sad, nostalgic moments or annoyance and about things what bother him and the only thing he managed to achieve was losing time. Even if it looked like he was getting the way to use his fire, it was very painfully time consuming and at the speeds of a snail.

During all of that, he still went to university and did his job as a student, came to practice day by day figuring out even the slightest mistakes he does and spending time with Alex in that place. He had nothing else to say about that, only it was very tough for him and most of the time it seemed like nothing was working as intended and that made him feel even worse in some days.

George was stuck and couldn't figure how to learn more about the place he goes at night, during sleeping, every direction was towards danger like plants and monsters. To him it felt like he was captive because of the lack of his physical power and was questioning his own sanity. While exploring in that world, at times he felt like he was back in that cage and the only savior he can think of was Alex, the kind and playful Alex.

One day, during a time when he was exploring, George was overthinking about his problems and didn't paid attention to where he was headed, and didn't realize if not for Alex, but as soon as he passed by a house in the village, a fire started to emerge.

"George! George, look! The house is on fire! I think it was you who did it!"

"Wait, what did you just say?"

"The house we just passed by is on fire!"

"Oh, yeah. Let's go help them cool off and fix this, even if this is my fault or not". And so, the fire stopped, and nobody got hurt.

A few days later, during a time when George was preparing his meal at evening, in a moment of not paying attention he accidentally nicked his finger by accident and in the next moment he noticed a fire starting to rise as if that was connected in a weird sense to him and his powers while chopping some vegetables. A small cut emerged, accompanied by a trickle of blood and to his astonishment, he watched as a tiny flame ignited at the wound's surface. Of course, he didn't panic as he would have in the past, but worried, he quickly rushed to extinguish the small fire with water and tend to the wound. What remained was a closed wound, the bleeding ceased, leaving George both surprised and glad.

"Well, at least I know I can heal faster now," he said it while laughing.

It looked like something normal to happen, and felt like it, even if it wasn't normal and then continued on with his day like nothing happened.

In the days what followed, George started to have a higher affinity of control thanks to everything what happened so far in the kitchen and in that Dream world and that experience was so good, that in fact in no time he learned how to use it on demand, that means, no more houses brought on fire, and no more "accidents" during university.

This chapter is a little bit tinier because of the lack of creativity and the time allocated for this side project of mine is non existent at times. I'd rather post little by little, than posting once per month or months.
