Chapter 1

Eri awoke to the sound of birdsong. He got up and rinsed his face in the stone basin by the window. Erinix was just over medium height with shaggy gold-brown hair and curiously purple eyes. Eri lived with his brother because their mother had left and their father died of sickness. One of Eri's favorite past times was swordplay and he was amateur at archery. Eri's brother Raxen was three years older than he was. But nonetheless, they were evenly matched at just about everything. As Eri looked up from the basin he saw horses approaching. He grabbed his dagger and ran to get Raxen. He found him on the porch with his sword in one hand and Eri's in the other. "Here," he said and handed Eri's sword to him. The men on the horses were getting close to the house now. "Stop right there," said Raxen "Why are you here". "The king has sent us to find recruits for the royal army," said the closest of the three on horseback. "Go tell the king he will have to come to get us himself otherwise we will need some kind of proof from the king," said Raxen. "Your demand for proof is understandable especially during these desperate times and your proof is right here," said the closest and handed Raxen a note with the lord of Narkle's seal unbroken."You're a bit past the border aren't you, we will be ready in an hour." said Raxen. It didn't take Eri too long to pack his things all he needed was his sword, bow, arrows, some clothes, and food. Soon they were leaving the farm at the edge of the Kimple mountains and were on there a way to Linteria, the capital of Narkle.

During the travel to Liberia, they learned the three men's names were Trinar, Jarok, and Rismus or just Ris for short. Trinar was medium height with blue eyes and dark brown hair. Ris was short and stocky similar to a dwarf with brown eyes and a bald head. Jarok was very tall with red eyes a red beard and blond hair. They rode all throughout the day and setting up camp as the sunset After four days of travel, they reached the main road. They traveled late into the day and made the trip in eight days. Listeria was the larger than Eri could have ever imagined. The castle in the middle was as tall as the tallest tree in the forest. The buildings directly around the castle we're about ten feet shorter than the castle and so on for about seven layers. As they neared the city the great gates loomed above them. Once they were in the city they walked towards the barracks. Once they were in the barracks Trinar said: "Well then I think after a good night's sleep we will all be ready for training". A man named Raxta came and showed them to their rooms.
