The first thing RuIng asked when he came back, “I need to talk about mother more. Will you be able to bear it?”
Sevir closed his eyes and sighed, “you noticed.”
“Hard not to.”
Sevir nodded, “say. Did you find anything else?”
“Headmaster Wama says that she often talked about a cure. She didn’t know what, who, or where the cure was. Everyone thought it was an escape from her memory problem.”
“Was it not?”
RuIng hesitated. Sevir glared, “still hiding things from me?”
RuIng grimaced. “You won’t believe me. Not even people in my world will believe me if I said it.”
Sevir said, “try me.”
“I think she had a problem with her beast. She rarely shifted. No one talked about it. Perhaps she did not want to pass her beast down. She was looking for a cure to end the beast line.”
Sevir frowned. “did you find something more? How can you be so sure?”
RuIng gave him an exasperated look, “you do not believe me. Nobody will.”
