Dotted with Blood

My heart pounds against my chest, my lungs burn with each breath, and my eyes sting with sharp liquid dripping from my cheeks. "No... you can't," my voice is faint as he steps towards me, "I said stop!" I look up at Amar, his eyes studying my face as if I was being painted right before him. "Kyriae..." he says under his breath. Contrary to his soft voice, his face looks like he would kill me at any moment. I bring up the courage to yell, "What are you?" He hesitated, "Nothing, I'm just a monster." **** As Kyriae and her brother Rome set out on a life on their own, Kyriae is immediately faced with two of the most dangerous species to live.

Chapter 1: New Students

Calm, steady rain pours on the windows. The room fills with a cloudy aura and the thunder rumbles silently. A branch or two scrapes against the bedroom window next to the bed almost tapping for the sleeping girl's attention. A red-haired man runs into the room ruining the peaceful melancholy set, "Kyriae, come on, we're gonna be late..." he grumbled before heading out the door again. Kyriae shuffled and groaned in her sheets, looking at her phone for the time being.

I jump up from my mattress, realize the time and run to hurry to get showered and dressed. After a quick shower, I choose a pair of black shorts and a gray colored tank top with a black leather jacket then head out towards the kitchen.

The red-haired man is sitting at the table with a plate of eggs and toast, "Hey Rome," I say pulling the coffee pot out of the coffeemaker. Rome looks up from the table and gives a smile, filled with egg and crumbs of bread. I pour myself a cup of coffee and sit down at the table with my twin brother.

"Josh said that he was gonna come pick me up to go to the campus early," he starts, wiping his mouth with a napkin, "apparently there's something up there he wants to show me so the truck is all yours today."

I look at Rome with a raised eyebrow. I've met Josh twice so far and both times I met him he seemed as if all he wanted to do was fuck and go camping. I never felt comfortable with Josh around, and every time we were together all I could feel was his eyes burning a hole down my body. The fact I have a class with him now wasn't exactly making me enthusiastic to go.

"When is he going to be here?" I question, pouring creamer into my near-boiling coffee mug. "I-on-kno-yet," Rome shrugs taking the last bite of his food. He gets up from his seat, and almost on cue, the doorbell rings. "That must be him now," Rome says with a slight smirk rushing over towards the door.

I roll my eyes and turn around facing away from the door as Rome opens the door talking to his friend about something I couldn't exactly hear. I feel eyes peering on my back that send a shiver down my spine, "Sup Kyriae!" Josh says pushing past Rome and coming inside. I turn to look at him, and for a second I could have sworn his eyes were silver as he flinched when I did.

'What was that?'

Josh is the guy that every girl dreams over at one point on campus, being two inches taller than my brother, at 6'2, and having a build like a supermodel. His piercing green eyes and light brown hair make his tanned skin look as if he was made straight from a greek statue. Yet, his attitude proves that he knows that everyone wants him, so he never had to face rejection in his life.

I nod my head at him and get up from my chair, pouring the rest of my coffee into my thermos as well as some of the new batches before closing the lid quickly. "Well I'm going to head out Roman," I say passing by Josh and giving Rome a quick peck on the cheek. "Call me if you need anything."

"Don't I get one too!" Josh says laughing, and I flip him the bird as I pick my purse off the couch and leave the apartment.

I roll down the road our my black chevy and pull into my favorite coffee shop. I haven't been here for months and I have been dying to smell the sweet aroma in the shop as I studied just like old times. I pick my bag up off of the passenger seat as I turn off the truck engine.

' Just like old times '

I pick my usual seat I sat at back in the day, and make myself comfortable before pulling out my laptop. Being in the back of the shop, I get the most peaceful part of the atmosphere and the window tops it off with the sun slightly peering in as I work.

I watch the clock pass through time as I work on old lesson guides for my biology class. I don't have to be at school for another 35 minutes, but I figure it's time for me to leave. I open my thermos lid, forgetting to do so as I first walked into the shop, only to find it still steaming as if it were just made. I sigh and place it back down. When I look back up, a figure catches my eye out of the window.

A shadow in the shape of a man walks past the window towards the front door of the cafe. His jet-black hair is combed neatly and his black t-shirt loosely outlines his sculpted body. His light stubble outlines his perfect jawline and cheekbones, and I find myself staring for too long gawking at this poor man trying to see his face.

I shake my head vigorously trying to keep myself from staring at this masterpiece of a man, and I continue to pack my things before getting up. As I finish getting my bag together I hear a scream of a female coming from the other end of the cafe and I, as well as three other people around me, turn their heads to see what was going on.

There stands the man I just saw being bombarded by a furious blond woman. She flails her arms at him as he just stands there and stares at her while she does it. I get up ready to leave and I glance back at the drama only to see him glancing back at me.

'Wow' is all I can think. His eyes remind me of a shore at sea, one a pale ocean blue and one a sandy amber, gazing at me for a second only for them to return at the livid blond under him. I pass through the doors to my truck and head to the campus grounds for class.
