Chapter 4

Jane laughs. “The phone’s ringing off the hook. Jeremy’s about to drive me up the wall, wants everything done at once…how do you deal with him?”

“Small doses,” Blake tells her with a smile. “You learn to tune him out when he’s in frantic panic mode.”

“Well,” she says, “you’re a stronger man than me.”

He laughs again. “I should hope so, unless there’s something you aren’t telling me…”

“You know what I mean,” she says, playful. “So when are you guys coming by for dinner? You promised.”

He closes his eyes and groans. “I’m sorry, I totally forgot. Tell you what, when’s a good time for you? Give me a date and I’ll pencil you in.”

He can hear the smirk in her voice when she asks, “You have to pencil us in? Jeez, wait until I tell Joe—”

“Don’t you dare,” Blake growls. She laughs; it is kind of funny, the idea of writing a dinner date with his best friends down in his appointment calendar. “How’s my baby girl doing?”
