CHAPTER 9

This is the first time I truly admire Su Xi. It's been a whole class, but he's so patient that he hasn't gotten mad at me yet.

"I just asked you to carry me out like this. I didn't resist, and I already took care of your face. Why are you yelling?" I challenged, crossing my arms defensively.

Su Xi looked angry and said, "You hit me with a textbook and now you're yelling at me? And don't forget you still owe me money."

Talking about the debt made me less angry. Does it really make someone lose their temper over a small amount of money?

I wanted to argue with Su Xi, but suddenly felt dizzy. I think it's because I stayed up late running around without enough rest. Holding my head, I said, "It's pointless to argue with you. I'll go take a nap and come to your company later. Okay?"

Su Xi hesitated, "You must have been tired yesterday. You should rest today."

Is this guy really being nice? Why did he suddenly act differently? There might be a plot here, and I won't let a deceitful person like him win.

"Sorry, but it's best to pay you back quickly and then stop associating with people like you. So, I have to go to today's class."

After saying that, I ignored Su Xi's sad face and said goodbye to him. Surprisingly, he insisted on walking me back.

"It's just a short walk from the classroom to the dorm. I'm not that fragile," I weakly argued.

"But you look really pale." Su Xi said, looking worried.

I felt dizzy and didn't want to talk to Su Xi, so I just agreed quietly.

This time, I went into the dorm without saying bye or thanks to Su Xi. I just flopped onto the bed.

Just as I was about to rest well to prepare for dealing with Su Xi's issues later, a face suddenly showed up by the bed, surprising me and making my sleepiness vanish.

When I saw Chen Li lying on the bed with only her head showing, I got mad and said. "Chen Li, scaring people can be really dangerous!"

Chen Li didn't reply. When she saw me getting up, she eagerly sat next to the bed and asked. "You were out so late last night. Did everything go well? You must have solved the issue since you didn't come back all night, right?"

I tilted my head and asked her. "Have you forgotten? I was searching for a job. Those three problems weren't related to working, but I did find a job."

I don't know why Chen Li didn't believe me when I told the truth. She said. "You're just a college student. The job fair is only for submitting resumes, they need time to review them. How could you know the result on the same day? You came back so late. Just be honest. Have you found a boyfriend?"

This time, Chen Li finally stopped guessing and openly shared her thoughts. She looked very curious, with wide eyes and hands on her hips, as if she was ready to solve the mystery right away.

I rolled my eyes and said. "Sister, it was a job fair, not a blind date. Besides, even if I found a boyfriend, I wouldn't hang out with him so late on the first day."

"Okay, you're not that kind of person." Although she sounded like she believed me, her tone didn't. She looked suspicious, tapping her foot. "I heard some sisters saw a tomboy next to Su Xi. Who else could it be but you? Can you explain?"

Chen Li stood with her hands on her hips, looking like she was eager to hear gossip. She raised an eyebrow, waiting for some juicy details.

Seeing her confident look almost made me laugh. But then I remembered the scandal between Su Xi and me, and I couldn't help but get goosebumps all over my body, and my smile turned into a grimace.

"Oh, it's true that it's me, but I'm not dating Su Xi. I just owe him money, so he's keeping an eye on me. That's why I started working for him."

Chen Li looked surprised. "How much money do you owe Su Xi? How much?"

I didn't think talking about Su Xi would upset Chen Li so much. Am I really not a good match for wealthy people?

But for our friendship, I shared everything that happened at the job fair with Chen Li. I told her how Su Xi treated me and how I got a job. I explained it all in detail, which made her angry and surprised.

"You're the only one in our school who dares to handle Su Xi like this, but I must say, you did a great job... So, you're really not with Su Xi?"

I heard her ask this question at least ten times while I was explaining, but this time I could only nod patiently.

Chen Li was quiet for a moment, thinking about everything I had just said. Then, she suddenly grabbed my right hand quickly, bowed her head, and asked very politely. "Can you introduce me to Su Xi? Please, please!"

"Wait, you've been asking all this just for that?" I said, surprised, pulling my hand back and looking at her with wide eyes.

After I finished talking, Chen Li looked up and said seriously, "No, I am serious about the gossip."

Her expression would be impressive if it wasn't for what she said. But with the content, it felt really sad.

"Sure, I can tell him, but you know I'm working to pay off my debt and can't have much influence on him."

"That's great! You're amazing!"

After that, Chen Li ran towards me and hugged me tightly. She was so excited that I felt like my insides were going to be squeezed out of my chest.

"Okay, okay, enough with the hugging. You're going to crush me," I gasped, trying to push her away gently.

After a long struggle to escape from Chen Li's control, I asked in confusion, "Is this the same Chen Li I know who isn't into boys? Isn't it just Su Xi who makes you happy?"

Chen Li's face lit up with a mischievous grin. "Do you remember why I've been single?" She asked.

As Chen Li's good friend and roommate, of course, I remembered. "To catch a rich husband."

Chen Li pointed her finger at me, saying. "Exactly! Which boy in this city is richer and more powerful than Su Xi?"

I shyly replied. "Even if you ask me, I don't know much about Su Xi's wealth and power. I'm not as good at gossip as you are."

Chen Li, feeling frustrated, lightly pinched my arm and said. "You're hopeless. This situation is troublesome for you. If you're already dating Su Xi, you don't need to worry. I don't want to compete with my best friend for a man."

Chen Li really values loyalty. If it were someone else, she might not hesitate to pursue Su Xi... but because Chen Li said this, I believed she was serious.

Still, I couldn't resist asking. "Chen Li, hasn't your goal for many years been to marry a wealthy man like Su Xi? How can you be so generous when you have the opportunity to catch someone like that?"

Chen Li shook her head and sighed, saying. "Your words are not nice, are they? Do you think I'm like your sister who doesn't care about men? Having someone like Su Xi as a goal is too high for me. I'm realistic. If it works out, great. If not, I'll be okay, so why would I blame you?"

"You seem to think I'm not as good as you. Why would you even consider that I might date Su Xi again? It doesn't make sense." I chuckled and teased Chen Li.

Chen Li gave a playful eye roll but couldn't help but smile. "You know, aiming high doesn't mean I can't see what's beyond my reach. Su Xi is like a fairy tale. But I still have dreams, and I'll hold onto them until proven otherwise."

I laughed at her dramatic style. "Alright, Dreamer, but seriously, Su Xi and I are not a couple. I'm just working to pay off my debt."

Chen Li sighed and patted my shoulder. "I understand, and I support you in clearing your debt and while dealing with him. Just stay open-minded. Sometimes, the fairy tale is closer than we realize."

I gave her a doubtful look. "Are you giving me tips or trying to set me up with Su Xi?"
