Jesse had wound up falling asleep face down on his bed. He had confessed earlier to Hank that he had been up for three days, so it was no surprise when sleep took him like an abductor.

Hank shook his head. The memory effectively wiped out any desire he had to try and see if Jesse was home. Even in the unlikely event that he was andholding and wanting to party, Hank realized, with a kind of relief, that hedidn’t want it. He didn’t want the crushing crash that would follow. Sure, his problems could be wiped out for hours, for days maybe, if all went well (or badly), but those same problems would still be there, waiting. They would be uglier than before because, to add insult to injury, Hank knew how depleted and sick he would be after a binge with Tina.
