Demonic Murders

It had already been a while since Dante had come over to protect Beatrice from whatever it was that was haunting her. Sometimes she felt all right to him and sometimes she appeared to be obsessively mad. But Zavier tried to hide his true thoughts as much as he could.

It had been yet another screaming session and Zavier could hardly take it anymore. He wondered what Vergil had seen in her. She was most probably psychotic.

"Are you all right?"

Beatrice was sweating all over but nodded her head while trembling. It had been yet another dream where Memnon had approached her demanding her to carry out what she had agreed with him.

She had to take the life of a child as soon as possible because she could hardly forget what Memnon had threatened her with.

"If you don't carry out what we agreed on soon, your child won't have the chance to get into this world. Time is running out...for both of you. You better hurry up."

Her eyes grew bloodshot and terror flowed out of her as if to engulf the whole world with its chilly breath.

Dante felt the change in atmosphere and his expression hardened slightly. But when he took another look at the woman, he felt that she had always been like this.

"I would like to be alone for a while. Please don't come into my room until I tell you to."

Dante felt that nothing could have made him happier than what she had asked him to do just then. He wanted to be rid of her too but he had to take the matter of his nephew seriously even if it was just the delusion of its mother.

As soon as Dante left the room, the terrified woman's countenance changed for the worse.

Something terrifying awakened inside of her and engulfed her whole being. A bloodthirsty look appeared on the face of that pregnant woman.

She opened the window by the side of her bed and climbed outside without telling anyone, not even Dante. Because what she was going to do was something this world wouldn't understand.

Being a mother she had to do this for her child, for the blood of Sparda to re-emerge in this world, she had to make the necessary sacrifice. A bloodline as magnificent as that of Sparda, of course it needed some amount of sacrifice.

Beatrice had already chosen her targets beforehand. She used to work for the order of the sword so she was well aware of the network that she needed to get into for getting information regarding newborn babies.

The first of those babies was an abandoned baby that had arrived at the doorstep of the orphanage managed by the same organization. She had been one of the caretakers here in the past so she knew where the baby would be.

It didn't take long for her to get back to the room that she had escaped from after completing the job.

The lazy bum was still lying outside knowing nothing about the escaped resident that he was supposed to be protecting.

She washed herself and washed her clothes to remove the stains that could prove her sins. She got into bed and called for Dante once she had matted and roughed up her hair again.

...

Dante had to go fetch her breakfast once again. He felt as if he was living the life of a servant and not that of a bodyguard like he had been hired to.

"Damn the cravings and the tantrums of pregnant women. Why did women have to be so obnoxious during pregnancy? It's not as if I am the father that she is ordering me around like that."

Dante muttered to himself in discontent as he went to the center of Fortuna city to fetch the snacks that she was craving for breakfast.

"Have you heard what happened at the orphanage?"

"Yes, I heard a child was murdered in cold blood."

"Also, the scene was so gruesome that everyone that saw it threw up at the spot. The insides of the body were all hanging outside and the blood had been smeared all over the wall to make some cultic symbols."

"How can someone be cruel enough to do that to a newborn baby?"

No matter where he went, Dante could only hear the same topic of conversation. He grew concerned as his brows furrowed in thought.

Dante felt that it wasn't something that he needed to get involved in as he had another job to do. He figured that there were plenty of people who could do such a thing; after all, this was the center of activities of the order of the sword.

They were one of the most twisted bunch that he had ever come across.

...

It was difficult only the first time. As she got used to it, Beatrice felt that it wasn't too bad. She felt slightly guilty for a moment whenever she was finished with her task but the thought of her baby, Sparda's long lost bloodline filled her with anticipation and excitement that made her forgot all about the horrifying things that she was doing, the lives she had taken and the families she had destroyed.

As she carried out Memnon's orders faithfully, the nightmares gradually stopped. She felt freer than she had ever felt before and her motivation to carry it out to the end propelled her further.

The rumors started spreading regarding a demon that liked to massacre newborn babies and gouge out their innards.

Several hunters were called for the job but they were unable to find a single trace of the demon.

As the rumors spread, it became harder for Beatrice to find her targets. She changed her tactics and resorted to stealing the babies away before murdering them in secluded areas to carry out the ritual.

No one suspected that a six-seven months pregnant woman was responsible for carrying out such atrocious and gruesome rituals.

Dante too grew more and more apprehensive as the incidents kept on piling and he became more serious regarding the safety of his nephew who was about to be born in a month and a half.
