Chapter 1: New world.

Samuel awoke to the usual early morning chatter of the other kids and the care takers, removing the blanket that covered him he got up and made his bed before making his way along with the other kids to the dinning room.

After having a modest breakfast of milk and bread Samuel and the other kids scattered to do their own things, The older kids helped out the caretakers do the daily chores and keep an eye on the other much younger kids.

As for 8 year olds like Samuel they would play around in the large yard behind the orphanage building. It was quite the lively place as kids played on swings, played hide and seek or tussled on the grass.

Samuel also took his usual spot and swung back and forth gently on the swing while two kids dueled with sticks Infront of him.

One year ago Samuel awoke in this new body in this foreign magical world. In this world, people could acquire special skills with skill points, gain useful titles for their achievements and level up to get stronger.

This kind of situation was the dream of any hot blooded youth yearning to prove themselves and to adventure. Samuel wasn't young however.

At first he was in denial but after spending a few weeks in this world and meeting it's people he had to admit that this was just as real as his life on earth.

Once he came to terms with his circumstances he first decided to gather information about this new world in order to create a strategy that would maximise his gains and minimise his losses.

This world was called Driftveil named after the supposed goddess of this world. People in this world revered the game like system of this world and worshipped it's mechanical female voice as their goddess.

Samuel didn't look down on beliefs of this worlds people after all if he was born into a world where a powerful ageless entity spoke in his mind and gave him powerful abilities that defied logic he would definitely worship it, but Sam wasn't a native of this world.

However his interest in this system was very high. In the year since his transmigration he had done everything to find out the inner workings of this system.

As for the nature of the system it was most likely a creation of a powerful third party, perhaps an ancient civilization, an alien race or something sort of god like entity. Perhaps it was created to aid the living beings of this world survive or to hamper their progress, but it was most likely some kind of energy harvester.

Such things were still out of his area of effect so he didn't bother thinking about it too deeply for now, instead he paid more attention to the mechanics of the system.

The system granted individuals three things: level, skills and titles.

Levels directly enhanced a person's stats making them stronger, tougher faster and have more endurance and mana. Levels can only be gained through killing.

Skills gave individuals a wide variety of abilities that spanned all areas, most skills could be acquired by buying them directly with skill points and some could be gained by training in them while a few could only be gained through achieving special conditions.

Titles are granted after fulfilling certain requirements, they usually reward those who acquire them with skill points but some harder titles can grant free skills.

After a year of research this was Sam's current understanding of the system. Sam's current goal was to get stronger however he was in a bit of a pinch or a few pinches to be exact.

First he couldn't level up, he was only 8 years old so leaving the orphanage to go monster hunting wasn't possible as even if he managed to sneak out and leave the city he would most likely be dead and being digested before 24 hours could elapse.

As for killing someone in the orphanage or in the city? A level 1 eight year old with no skills nor any assassination training wouldn't be a successful serial killer as there were possibly hundreds of skills that could be used to track the culprit of a murder down.

As for acquiring skills? He had no skill points and it's not like he had a list of titles and their requirements on hand either. Although he knew of a few titles with self explanatory requirements like Monster slayer. Most of the ones he knew required killing something hard to kill or doing something that would land him on a cross surrounded by an angry mob.

That left him with only one route, physical training, many basic skills like [Swordsman] could be acquired by gaining enough proficiency in that skill.

He might also be able to increase his stats by doing physical training. After all if he could get physically stronger on earth why wouldn't he be able to do so in Driftveil.

Luckily he had a vast pool of knowledge and experience in this field.

{Skill proficiency has been reached, you have gained the skill [Clubsmanship] LV 1}

'Finally' Sam thought while restraining the smile on his face.

After over a month of swinging a stick around daily he had finally gained his first skill.

He had finally heard the voice of the goddess for the first and along with her indifferent announcement came a flood of information that streamed into his being and imprinted itself into his body.

This information didn't come in the form of words or instructions instead it was as if he had gained a new instinctual grasp on the use of clubs.

Wielding his stick he swung it once more at the tree, his foot work was almost flawless as his body moved in a way to most efficiently transfer the most energy into the club while allowing him to keep a steady stance with no imbalance or weakness.

'So this is a skill huh.' Sam marvelled while looking at his palms.

'This changes things.' Although the power of the skill wasn't anything extraordinary as it just slightly polished his technique however the skill itself was only at level 1. If it was at a higher level he may even be able to smash people into a pulp before they even had time to react.

I won't bother fixing grammatical mistakes but feel free to point them out.
