2 years later
"Im slowly starting to get more and more used to this new body. Except the fact I'm a girl now but hey at least I can walk now right. I don't know if i'll ever get used to being a girl but that doesn't matter i need to do everything i can to restore my clan' Ren thinks to himself forcing his infantile legs to stumble and move despite the lack of motor function development.
"I have a couple years until I can fully move around at somewhat my full capacity, probably around 6 before I get a good grasp on everything. I guess in the meantime I should learn the language of this country as fast as possible."Ren says, stumbling out of the guest room and staring down the dreaded stairs, committing himself to traverse the descending horror.
'Some measly steps aren't going to hold me back.'
Step by step Ren manages to shift his weight down each step keeping his balance on each step making his way finally to the ground floor of the inn.
Urging his tiny legs to keep moving he guides his tiny frame along the main lounging area sitting down for a needed respite from all that legwork.
"At least I know Secri. I'm glad my father drilled that into me. I just need to somehow get a book." Ren thinks to himself going over the brutal linguistics lessons his father drilled into him to ensure he becomes fluent.
Walking towards one of the nearby bookshelves in the lounging area of the inn Ren forces his little legs to stumble their way over, managing to pull a book out of the shelf stumbling over a little as he manages to pry it out of the shelf..
"Aria what are you getting into? Oh you want to read, well you won't be able to read this level of book. It was my husbands once i'll let you read it at some point. This should be easier to understand." Misty coos and encourages Aria providing her something a little more digestible while storing away the old book her husband once scoured over daily.
*The sun and the moon* Misty hands over the hardcover backed nursery book with a bright smile ruffing up Arias bright red hair.
'This should work. I should be able to get a decent understanding of their language. Well it's not like I'm short on time. I might as well read as much as I can until I can understand the language.' Ren says thankful to still have his 20 year old awareness dispute the infant body.
'Just wish the content wasnt so damn boring.' Ren scoffs at getting bored but remaining diligent in learning as much as he can.
After a couple hours of scouring over the nursery book associating as many words with the images provided as possible Ren gets up to devour another set of books, his 20 year old consciousness demanding more knowledge in turn expanding the child-like brain it resides within.
"Aria are you already done with the last one? I mean you're welcome to have another book. I have plenty but I thought that would take you much longer than that." Misty says shocked over how fast Aria managed to get through that book. Ren nods his head rapidly in response near demanding another book for his mind to devour.
"Alright alright I'm sure another book wouldn't hurt, here you are Aria." Misty says handing over another more difficult book then the typical nursery books.
'Perfect this should have plenty of wider ranged words then the last one.' Ren thinks to himself, looking over the next hardcover book.
"Lydia, I need a hand in the kitchen. I'm making breakfast. Can you wake up Reiner to look after Aria." Misty calls out as she starts to cook up a variety of eggs and bacon with toast for their breakfast.
"Yes mom, I'll wake him now." Lydia calls out from her room on the second floor, starting to wake herself up and make her way up to the third floor to wake up Reiner.
"Hey dork, wake up the suns hanging high in the sky already." Lydia says as she pulls off her brother's covers to shock him awake.
"Can I just have five more minutes?" Reiner calls out desperately, still in a semi-sleep.
"No, I need you to look after Aria otherwise there won't be any breakfast." Lydia says with a hand on her hip as she emphasises her point across.
"Uggghhhhh...Fine" Reiner grumbles as he forces his groggy body to stand out of his warm comforting bed.
"I thought the idea of breakfast disappearing would get you moving." Lydia says as she begins to descend down the stairs making sure to not let Reiner sneak his way back to sleep.
"Reiners up now mom." Lydia calls out seeing Reiner groggily follow behind her making his way to the lounge area where Aria is.
"Not that I want to be." Reiner says as he drops his body onto the nearby couch.
"Thank you dear, I just need someone to keep a watch of Aria while I cook." Misty says ass she continues to cook a variety of ingredients for breakfast seasoning as she goes.
"I understand I'll keep a watch while I wake up." Reiner says, wiping the crust out of his waking eyes.
"Lydia, give me a hand in the kitchen now will you." Misty says over the sounds of eggs cracking into a pan.
"Coming mom." Lydia says rushing her way into the kitchen.
'At least this family seems nice, they've treated me so kindly so far despite not having much but there inn' Ren says looking over how humble this family is living grateful their even providing him any aid.
'I promise I Ren Artemis will repay your kindness double over when the years finally go by.' Ren proclaims to himself swearing an oath to this families kindness.
"Aria where are you?" Reiner calls out losing track of her as he struggles to wake up fully.
"Huh you're using those books more than more than me or lydia ever did. Can you even read that? It just looks like you're staring at the pictures." Reiner comments seeing the odd flickering between words and pictures that Aria is doing.
"Maybe she likes the pictures. Reiner, you don't know what's going on inside her head." Misty calls out through the sound of sizzling bacon on the cast iron.
'Alright I think I have a decent grasp on the beginner words for this language, I'm glad this spongy brain can adapt quickly with my 20 year old awareness. These pictures are making it easier and easier to associate the words.' Ren thinks to himself, finally preparing himself for something he's waited for for years.
"How can you sit there for so long on just books, surely you want to play outside or something Aria?" Reiner questions noticing the lengthy time that Aria has spent transfixed to just books.
'I think I can finally say it. thank the phoenix for these books and their digestible words.' Ren nearly sheds a tear in his gratitude as he prepares to finally say what hes been waiting for.
'MY...Na…Me IS….REN!" Ren manages to form words finally for the first time in two years of his reincarnation.
"Aria did you just speak?" Reiners eyes crack wide open as he hears this all drowsiness leaving him in an instant.
"What did you say Reiner?" Misty asks not quite hearing through the sound of the stove.
"REN!" Ren screams out alerting the whole inn.
"Did Aria just speak? She's only two years old. These must be her first words." Misty asks, hearing a feminine voice break through the hustle and bustle of the kitchen.
'I cant let my people be forgotten and that starts with not losing my original name' Ren affirms to himself as he readies himself to say it another time.
"My…Name…..Is REN!" He says it again even louder.
"She learned to speak so fast mom is this normal, i don't think me or Reiner could say much like that till three or four."
"Yeah this is a rare occurrence, this doesn't usually happen so soon. She said her name is Ren too. How the hell could she know her own name?" Misty questions perplexed at what she's hearing she struggles snot to burn the food
"She must've just picked that out for herself so I guess will just refer to her as that for her nickname. So are we just going to call her Ren then." Lydia asks taking over the near burning food, managing to salvage it despite everyone's confusion.
"If it calms her down, so be it." Misty remarks are still utterly confused over such an odd situation.
"Ren calm down now, breakfast is almost ready, go sit down and read your book." Misty says hoping that will calm her down from screaming her lungs out and waking up what few guests they have.
'I did it! actually managed to speak in their language. I thought I would be stuck mute for too long. I won't forget my people or the sacrifices they made this lifetime. I will pour my every being into restoring our people.' Rens mind surges with satisfaction and resolve as he finally can hear his name again.
