Help

Nathan felt the discomfort of the light passing through his eyelids and half opened his eyes as he covered his face with one arm.

The discomfort passed quickly, however, and Nathan sat up in surprise and looked around.

A twinge of pain in his leg forced him to lie back down, moaning softly. Once the pain had passed, he remembered what had happened last night and shuddered as he recalled the old man's head exploding twice.

Even though he couldn't see it, because as soon as his head exploded his eyes met the same fate, he could feel the pain for a thousandth of a second before it went back a few seconds.

Nathan had not been sure five months ago when he had seen his throat cut and then turned back seconds before, but now with last night's experience, he was sure.

Like his brother Noah, who could see the impending death of others, Nathan could see his own impending death, like a death premonition.

He had never discovered this because he had never been in a death situation, but now that he had discovered he had this power it was too late.

He was estranged from his family, unaware of his condition and unsure if they even missed him or had looked for him after his disappearance.

At that moment, the door to the room opened again and Lira entered, wearing the same jacket as always, but her expression was different. Last night she had cried herself to sleep, but now she had a small smile on her face.

However, when she saw that Nathan was awake and looking at her, Lira quickly lost her smile and ran to him, worried.

"H-How are you feeling?"

Lira grabbed his shirt and looked up at him with small tears in her eyes.

Nathan just smiled slightly so as not to worry her.

"I'm fine... don't worry"

Even though he had said that, he was actually suffering from the pain in his leg. Every time he tried to move it, he felt a twinge that made him groan inwardly. But more than the pain, Nathan was confused by what had happened after the old man had knocked him unconscious.

The very thought of the old man made him shudder, as if the memory of his existence frightened him. But that fear vanished as one thing dawned on him.

'I... I was able to sleep'

Despite the pain, he actually felt strangely energetic. It had been a long time since he had been able to sleep a night without waking from nightmares, but now he had managed it.

He did not know if he would be able to sleep without nightmares again, but he preferred to enjoy a moment of peace in his mind.

Nathan looked at Lira.

"What happened last night?"

Lira tightened her grip on his shirt and looked away from his eyes.

"Last night... a strange old man knocked on the door"

Nathan listened to the story of what had happened last night and thought.

The old man had come to the factory, left Nathan in the hands of the other children, and brought medicine for Kiru. He had also left some first aid supplies for his leg.

Nathan did not understand what was going through the old man's mind, he had tried to rob him unsuccessfully and had the opportunity to kill him, but instead decided to let him live and take him back to the factory.

Several questions came to Nathan's mind.

'Who is that old man, how did he know where we lived...?'

But there was no point in thinking about it, he would never find the answers, so Nathan just lay there and listened to Lira.

A short time later, the door to the room opened again and Kiru came in with two other children. Kiru had brown hair and was a little short, the other two children had similar features.

In reality, there were two types of orphans, those who had been abandoned at birth and those who had lost their parents while growing up.

Kiru was of the first type, along with the other two children beside him. Kiro and Kira, their names were practically the same, just with a different vowel at the end, because they were named after each other.

Having been abandoned at birth, it was only natural that they had no names. Unlike Lira, or Nathan, that had been given a name by their parents.

One day after, Nathan started having nightmares again and had trouble sleeping.

At first, he thought that being with his new family might help him sleep at night... or maybe he could just forget the memories that were with him every hour, but nothing worked to stop his painful memories from consuming him.

A month passed, Nathan had no idea what kind of medicine the old man had given him, but his leg had completely healed, which should have been impossible.

His leg should not have healed so quickly, he should not even be able to move it as he had before.

His tibia and fibula had been practically destroyed, and even with the current medica it would have been difficult to guarantee good movement in his leg. But the old man had somehow managed to heal it.

He had seen injuries like this before in the military installations where he spent most of his time with his family, and there had been soldiers who had lost limbs to more minor injuries.

That day, the afternoon came, and Nathan left the factory alone, with the excuse that he was going to get some air... which was not the purest and best smelling air.

But as soon as he was a few blocks away from the factory, he set off for the village... in search of the old man.

Like the other day, it took him an hour to get there, but this time he didn't arrive at night, but in the afternoon. The sun had not yet set, and its light was still illuminating the streets.

Nathan walked to the road and when he arrived, he saw that there was no trace of blood.

'The old man must have cleaned it up...'

Leaving a bloodstain in the middle of the road would not be a good idea, it would cause fear among the people of the village, so the old man must have cleaned it up.

Nathan continued to walk through the village looking for the old man until he found him walking about half an hour later.

He followed him for a while until the old man came to a house a little way out of town. The house was large, looking more like a temple than a house, and was hidden in the forest.

Nathan followed the old man, hiding in the trees, until the old man entered the house.

Nathan stayed hidden behind a tree while he looked at the door, he wasn't even sure what to do, he didn't know if he should stay there for a while or just leave.

But all his plans went out the window when he saw something resting on his shoulder. He turned to see a black cane resting on his shoulder and the old man behind him looking at him with a tired look in his eyes.

Nathan froze, remembering that night, and began to shake. His face twisted, revealing his emotions.

Seeing this, the old man remained silent for a few seconds before speaking.

"Why did you come back, do you have a death wish?"

Nathan swallowed saliva and clenched his fists to stop his shaking hands... without much success.

"I-I... need help"
