I had finished my burger quietly, the once bustling bar now emptying as the patrons left one after the other. The last to go was a drunk woman, swaying slightly as she bid goodnight. Drex locked the door behind her, the click of the lock echoing in the now silent room. His eyes locked onto mine, and he crossed the room in a few swift strides, his voice dripping with anger.

"Why are you in Kansas?" he demanded, the intensity in his gaze unnerving.

"Better question," I replied smugly, leaning back in my chair. "Why are you?" I settled into a posture of defiance, channeling my best Hannibal Lecter impersonation. "Quid pro quo, Drex. I'll tell you why I came here if you tell me what you are. Though I'm pretty sure you know why I'm here. You can read my mind, right? What was it you said, 'I know your every thought'?"
