11 mining and the bow

I decided to try out the pickaxe before I did anything. I managed to dig out a decent amount of each of the ores and only lose about five durability.

I'm not sure but I think the pickaxe work better than it should. if I had to guess I think it works just as good as an iron pickaxe.

if I had managed to actually fuse the head and shaft with iron and other materials I think I could have made an amazing pickaxe.

but that requires much more expertise than I have right now once I'm done with the bow though I am going to make myself a special piece of equipment.

I spent the next 5 hours refining a decent amount of iron and copper, I also had a decent amount of coal from mining. then I spent another few hours trying to mix my iron and coal into steel.

I managed to succeed and got a few handfuls of steel. now that I had steel I only needed to get one more metal in order to finish the bow. but in order to do that I needed to look around and see if the rock wolves have Dug anymore caves.

I went and looked around and actually managed to find one, I'm sure there are more around but hopefully this one has what I need. I searched through the whole thing but I couldn't find where I was looking for just the same metal as the cave I was in.

I searched about four other caves where I found what I was looking for. I managed to find zinc in the walls of this cave. I use my pickaxe and shattered part of the walls. I then smashed the debris into dust, then I dug a pit filled with water and put the zinc ore dust in it.

I used mana crafting and I tried to summon lightning magic. it took about an hour but I managed to pull it off. I electrocuted the pit of water and used mana to stir it and extract the metal into a ball.

it was the first time I was doing something like this so it took me almost 4 hours to get a decent amount of zinc, but even then it was only around the size of a pool ball. I went back to my cave once I was done.

I resealed the entrance and sat down to get the rest of the materials. I took the zinc in the copper and spent an hour mixing them together to make brass. thankfully the experience of making steel helped a lot.

when I was done I was all out of copper and zinc. but I had a decent amount of brass. I decided for the body of the bow I would use the spines of the rock wolves all the way to the tails.

I gathered four spines and refined them. I decided to try to fuse iron with the spines I managed to pull it off. it managed to make the spines more rigid and suitable for a bow.

I decided to use the hide of the gust rabbit for the handle of the bow. I decided to get the brass and use it as caps for the tips of the bow. the brass would hold the bow string, because it's very resistant to friction and corrosion.

I decided to make it a recurve bow, the brass look very good on the swept tips. I was a decent height so I decided to make the bow longer to make it easier for me to draw.

now comes the hard part I need to design the string. I decided to use the gust rabbit tendons. if I'm lucky I might be able to get some extra power from its wind element.

once I grab the tendons I decided to refine them. once it was purified and refined it was slightly too short for the bow but that wasn't an issue. I grabbed my steel and fused it with the gust rabbit tendon.

it took about 3 hours just to get to this point. but I managed to add the steel to the tendon. it greatly increased the strength of the bow string and the difficulty of drawing the bow.

but that was perfect because as I level up I'll keep getting stronger this bow should be able to last for a while. I strung the bow and decided to see how it turned out.

metallic beast bone Bow

25 damage

(75/75) durability

skills

(penetrating shot)

the bow came out much better than I actually thought it even managed to get a skill. if I'm right the 25 damage is most likely due to the metal I put in the bow string and in the body.

and the damage is probably calculated by giving the arrow it shoots more speed and power. penetrating shot is plenty of self-explanatory.

I most likely got the skill thanks to the gust rabbit tendons and hide combined with the Earth element in the rockwolf spines in the body.

from the description of the skill it seems to use both air, and Earth mana. it uses air mana together incredible speed and Earth mana to drill through what it hits.

now that the bow is finally done I spent most of the day on it and gathering resources. I went to sleep after checking outside for animals.

I woke up the next morning and decided to try to make arrows after having breakfast. I'm just not sure what to use as the arrowhead.

I could use metal but then it won't have any elemental bonus. I suppose I could use more rock wolf bones. I'm sure the Earth element can give extra penetration but it may lower speed.

before I decided to figure out the head of the arrows I grabbed a good amount of rockwolf tendons. I decided to purify them and combine them with half of my remaining steel.

I managed to get a few feet of reinforced tendon. I was going to use the tendon to keep the head and shaft of the arrow together.

I decided to make the shaft of the arrows with the rest of my iron and some rock wolf bones, I decided to use the ribs.

I decided to try out a new idea, thanks to getting the zinc yesterday I managed to get the skill lightning magic. I took the rest of the steel and tried to infuse it with lightning mana.

after about an hour it managed to work but the lack of proper tools made it not very high quality. at the end I was left with a decent amount of shock steel.

based on shock steals description it's just regular steel with a small amount of lightning mana imbued in it. hopefully the effect will become more pronounced after I use it in crafting.

I decided to use rockwolf bones the shock steel and the three horns from the horned rabbits as the arrowheads. first I took all the materials and decided to purify them separately.

once they were purified I decided to slowly merge them all together into one material. once I was done the material ended up looking very metallic. once I grab the lump I actually managed to get a decent shock.

I believe once I turn it into arrowheads the shock will be even stronger. thankfully I made the arrow shaft out of rockwolf Bones the Earth attribute should protect me from the lightning on the arrowhead.

I separated the lump and the smaller parts and forge them into arrowheads. I use the entire amount and manage to get about 15 arrowheads.

the only thing I'm missing now is arrow fletching. but I had an insane idea on how to fix that. I took the rest of the gust rabbit hide and purified it and merged all the hairs together with the hide itself.

I decided to add a small amount of copper for strength. because copper is very malleable even though it's metallic I managed to get more strength by adding it with the Gust rabbit hide. I managed to get a new material.

my skill identification called it lesser metallic gust leather. even though it was called leather since I added the copper to it for strength and to keep its malleability.

it can be incredibly thin and is able to be moved like metal. I believe it's classified as leather because the main ingredient is gust rabbit hide. I separated it into small thin shapes perfect for arrow fletching.

I managed to have a small amount left over which was pretty good. once I'm done and use the arrows I'm sure the fletching will be damaged.

even if I can repair it using mana crafting I'm sure material will be lost during the repair, so I'll need extra material to fully patch it.

I decided to put everything together. first I took the arrow shaft and put the arrowhead in the groove I made to hold it. then I took my reinforced tendon and bound the shaft and Arrowhead together.

once I did that for every arrow I moved to attaching all the fletching. I put the fletching in the groove made for it as well and used more reinforced tendon to bind it together.

once that was done I had my 15 arrows. they seem to be pretty decent based on the materials I used. most of the day went by just doing this. I decided to check the stats on the arrows then go to bed and hunt the next day.

metallic beast bone shocking arrow

10 Pierce damage

25 projectile speed

5 shock damage

(20/20) durability

it looks like I managed get good effects from the materials. I think the extra projectile speed should be the effect from the fletching.

it seems using the metal, bones, and horns managed to give decent Pierce damage to the arrowhead. The Rock wolf bones managed to give a decent durability to the entire arrow.

it seems I was very lucky to be able to actually get shock damage, and the description of the arrow says that also has a small chance of temporarily paralyzing small animals for a few seconds.

even though the arrows didn't have a skill, with the small chance to paralyze they're already very good. I decided to fall asleep and go hunting the next day.
