I was floored. What did she mean by that?!

"In case you are unaware, you are the one who started barraging me with questions," I hissed, straightening in my seat.

Her face squeezed in a frown which then eased as if she was trying to compose herself. She put on a calm demeanour and glanced back to the smoke.

"That isn't what I am talking about."

My eyes narrowed at her. "Then what is the matter?"

She paused and then leaned away from me, a confused frown forming across her features before she finally turned aside, softly mumbling, "Never mind. It was nothing."

My brow twitched and I massaged my temple. "You can't be serious. Why would you—"

"The way you look at me!" she lashed out, her voice high enough for the nobles and servants nearby to hear. Her fingers flexed out on her skirt out of frustration and she held her wrist tightly before whipping her head to glare at me. "Never do that again."
