Dead Whispers: Bella's Story

Bella Daniels scrambled to her feet, seeing the empty room and her little brother's clothes were gone. Suddenly, she heard a strange noise outside and ran to the window. The sun blinded her briefly, but then her eyes widened, seeing the grotesque decaying mutants staggering in the road. She couldn't believe it when she woke up in the middle of a living nightmare she had only read about.

Episode 17

Abraham and Sarah decided it was best for the group to leave Baker County and start over somewhere new. Everyone loaded the vehicles and made sure they had everything they wanted. It had been a month since that horrible night at the intersection, and the group agreed they no longer wanted to stay there. It was too much of a reminder of who and how much they lost.

Charlie and Bonnie packed their stuff, and Andy and Mike helped them carry their bags to the cars. Andy and Mike loaded the weapons and guns in Mike's SUV and the food and medical supplies in Sarah's truck. Once everything was out of the house, Abraham and Sarah set fire to the ranch.

Bella leaned against Jordan and watched it burn. She shed a tear, and Charlie and Abraham hugged her.

"It's time to put this place behind us," said Abraham, and Bella nodded, wiping her tears away.

"Yeah," she agreed, and Jordan rubbed her back.

The beasts groaned at the gate, and Bella and Jordan looked at them.

"They coming with us?" asked Charlie, and Bella nodded.

"Yeah. They are part of our pack," she said, rubbing his shoulder.

"So, are you and Jordan driving the bikes?" asked Abraham.

Bella and Jordan looked at each other, and Bella shook her head, wrinkling her nose. Jordan chuckled and shook his head.

"Nah, we gonna load them. Need drivers for Mike's SUV and the green truck," he said, and Abraham looked at Bella.

"I hate that you busted the windows of my truck. It was brand new," he said, and Bella snorted.

"Totally out of my control. Besides, I found you another one. Might not be as fancy, but it has windows and mirrors," she teased, and Jordan snickered.

Abraham laughed and rubbed his daughter's back.

"Yeah, you did," he said, and Bella grinned.

"Aight, baby girl. Let's get these bikes loaded," said Jordan, and she nodded.

Jordan and Bella loaded and secured the bikes, and he looked at her.

"You got any joints rolled?" he asked, and Bella nodded.

"I actually rolled you a few. Thought you might need something for the road, plus I have an extra MP3 player you can use," she said, and he grinned.

"Thanks, baby girl."

Bella nodded and giggled.

"Of course. Maybe you won't miss me so much being stoned and listening to music," she teased, and Jordan touched her face.

"Nah, I think you're gonna miss me."

Bella searched his eyes as he licked his lips and smiled.

"No, Jordan Baker. You're going to miss me," she said, stepping closer, and he looked at her with soft eyes.

Bella smiled, biting her bottom lip, and spun away.

"See you later, Jordan Baker," she said, walking toward the green truck.

Jordan bit his lip, watching her walk away, and Andy chuckled, approaching.

"Women," he said, and Jordan chuckled, nodding.

"Yeah, but there is just something about her. She's driving me crazy, man," he breathed, and Andy snickered.

"She did the same thing to Dale. I think she likes you, so play your cards right," he said.

Jordan nodded, watching Bella wave to him, and he smiled, nodding.

"Yeah. I like her, too," he breathed.

Two months had passed since the group left Baker County and the farm behind. Things were more difficult without a set place to call home, but Abraham, Bella, Charlie, Jordan, Sarah, Mike, Andy, and Bonnie managed.

One of the cars Mike was driving died, and the group loaded everything in the other vehicles. He wanted to drive his SUV, so Jordan rode with Bella. They played different music from the MP3 players and shared joints. Charlie would talk to them through the radio, and Bonnie would join in the conversation.

The convoy headed northeast, not knowing Wess and the Bandits were also heading in the same direction, only on a different route.
