into hell (chapter 39)

Chapter 39

"Yo...you're in on this too?" Germain asked in surprise as Cain seemed to be watching his XP meter, which just reached the requirement, increasing his level by 1. "Oh, I couldn't give two fucks about Dracula. All I want is a ride to hell," Cain said, recovering all of his mana charges, and gaining a new spell in the process.

The supposed Death, through his monologue, revealed that he wanted Dracula alive because of all the death he could bring. "Oh, well, if you want a ride to hell, then I suppose you have no reason to interfere with me, do you?" it asked, closing in on Cain, hoping to intimidate him. "You want Dracula out of hell, and I want to go into hell — same path, different destination," Cain said, continuing, "You don't intervene with my destination, I don't mess you up. Does that sound good to you?" he asked bluntly, appearing unafraid of the supposed Death.

"You believe I can't kill you, mortal sorcerer?" it asked, to which Cain retorted, "You believe I can't?" causing the creature to pause as it reconsidered its goal. "Although you bring a lot of death, but not to humans. You are of no use to me," it said, backing out before turning to threaten Saint Germain to trap Dracula and his wife in the same body, hoping to enrage the vampire king into murderous actions. Saint Germain obliged, opening a door to hell. "Off you go, human sorcerer. May you never return," Death said as Cain stepped into the surprisingly frozen hell.

As soon as he touched down, he looked up to the portal, and suddenly, 29 Cains appeared. Cain ordered, "I am still 40k XP away from reaching level 30," as the duplicates smiled and spread out. "Let's go and scorch hell," he said, a smile forming on his face as he contemplated all the XP he could earn.

[ unknown time later ]

In the heart of the snow-filled wasteland, where remnants of a decaying civilization lay buried beneath the frozen expanse, the world was a canvas painted in icy desolation. Skeletons of once towering buildings stood frozen in time, capturing the echoes of a forgotten era. The snow apocalypse had transformed this region into a haunting realm, a frozen purgatory where only the memories of life lingered.

Suddenly, as if stirred by some primordial force, one of the mountains in this frigid expanse trembled. The snow shifted and quivered, revealing the awakening of a colossal being — a literal snow mountain giant. Its form emerged from the snowy cocoon, a giant with icy sinews and frosty muscles, eyes gleaming with an otherworldly intelligence. As it rose, the very ground seemed to shudder beneath its awakening.

Beneath the giant's frozen footsteps, the snow-laden land rumbled, sending a signal to the underworld. From the depths of this apocalyptic tundra, several creatures began to stir, each unique, monstrous, and eager to reclaim the desolate landscape. First among them were the Frost Drifters, ethereal beings with crystalline wings that shimmered in the pale light. They could glide effortlessly over the snow, leaving a trail of frost in their wake. Their bodies seemed carved from ice, reflecting the unforgiving nature of the land they called home.

Next emerged the Hibernox, creatures resembling massive bears encased in icy armor. They possessed colossal strength, their claws capable of tearing through the toughest frozen terrain. Hibernox moved with deceptive speed, their breath creating freezing gusts that could instantly crystallize any unlucky creature in their path. Alongside them slithered the Frost Serpents, their scales glinting like the facets of an ice crystal. These serpents could navigate seamlessly through the snow, their chilling hisses announcing their presence. Their bite carried an intense frost, freezing the very essence of life in their prey.
