"Meka, hurry up and get me the purple dress," Mama yelled as her daughter rushed out. She then added another piece of jewelry around Safiya's neck. "There, you look ravishing."
"Mama," Safiya smiled, "I look better in blue dresses." She gave an awkward laugh, hoping Mama would listen to her.
Mama waved her hands in the air as she walked over to the table where the jewelry was, taking a white and red bead. "A mother knows best," she said with a smile, walking back towards Safiya. "Let me."
Safiya turned around so her mother could place the bead around her neck. When she turned back, a wide smile crept onto her mother's face.
"You look lovely," Mama said, turning her gaze away, tears stinging in her eyes.
"Mama," Safiya squeezed her hand, "Thank you for all you do."
At that moment, Meka arrived with the dress and her eyes fell on Safiya. "Oh! Sister, is that you?" She rushed towards Safiya.
Safiya nudged her, smiling. "Meka, really?"
