Being one of the most dominant figures in the industry had its perks, and part of them was having the privilege to meet other individuals of the same level.
As soon as the performance ended, Kai decided to put that to good use. He excused himself to Essie, reasoning that he would like to take a breather outside.
In reality, he slipped out to meet the first ever woman who had caught his fancy.
'I wonder what she's like?'
He had never sought out someone by his own will before. She's the only one who'd made him act like this.
But it's weird that it's mainly because he's attracted to her voice among other things. After all, on top of being the son of a billionaire, he was one of the country's top fashion models. It went without saying that he'd seen a lot of good-looking and impressive people. However, this was the first time he'd actually thought of someone as beautiful.
'I'm not sure what's with her that makes me want to know her more.'
Maybe it's the way she sang as if she's speaking straight to his soul. Whatever it was, it definitely had something to do with what she did back there.
'I bet she has a personality that's just as angelic as her voice-'
"STOP BITCHING AROUND, YOU LOW-LIFE!"
Kai froze mid-step.
He failed to realize that he already made it in front of the dressing room until he heard someone yelling. It was loud enough to reach past the closed door and fill the corridor outside.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'VE GOTTA TAKE A BREAK?! I'M STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF A TOUR, DUMBASS! WHO'S GONNA BE MY VOICE IF YOU DON'T SING?!"
His brows shot up, eyes wide open.
He walked over to the door and read the name written on the sign. Sure enough, the person he wanted to see was the one occupying that particular fitting room. He sensed there was something terrible going on there. But he hesitated, feeling like he's intruding if he was to eavesdrop any longer.
Yet, when he suddenly heard a loud crash from inside, he could not help himself anymore.
Pushing the door open, he found the woman on the stage earlier doing something he would've never thought she would do. She's holding up a broken flower vase with one hand, all set to strike it down on another woman he believed her anger was directed to.
"USELESS PIECE OF TRASH!"
Without a second thought, Kai rushed into the scene before tragedy hit.
He didn't know what had gotten into him at that moment. He wasn't the type to mind other people's business.
But seeing the petrified look on this stranger's face compelled him to do the unexpected, which then resulted in blood dripping down the side of his face after the jagged edge of the flower vase smashed into his head.
Both ladies jumped back in shock.
It hurt so bad he was surprised he hadn't lost consciousness right then. He supposed it's not enough to make him pass out, which was both relieving and helpful. This would be a good excuse to get involved and ask the questions he'd taken that hit for.
"You." Kai glowered. "What the hell were you trying to do just now?"
"W-What you say? I w-wasn't doing anything! W-We were just talking-"
"I don't think singers talk that loud," Kai scoffed. "Or any normal person for that matter."
Her affronted reaction was all that he needed to confirm his suspicion, and based on what she'd been ranting and raving about before he appeared, he gathered that she's actually using someone else's singing voice during her performance.
'A ghost singer, is it?'
When he took a better look at the person in question, he felt his breath hitch. She's what they'd call an autumnal beauty, with her long, wavy dark brown hair and soft, roundish hazel eyes that regarded him with so many mixed emotions. This was the first time a woman looked at him like he was her savior, like he could do much more than be a pretty face.
"O-Of course, I am! Just who do you think you're talking to, huh?! A-And where did you come from, anyway?! You dared barge in without-"
"M-Ms. Georgine, p-please," the other woman spoke up nervously. "W-We have to help him first. H-He's bleeding, a-and-"
"Shut your mouth, Aria! This only happened because you'd gotten too cocky! I wouldn't have lashed out if you weren't acting like a whiny little whore! You should've just obeyed like you always did! This is all on you!"
Kai just had about enough.
He thought for sure that this Georgine would deny harassing her by coming up with more excuses. But here she was, foolishly running her mouth and giving him more reason to think badly of her. Her berating Aria instead of worrying for him like her showed everything he needed to know about what kind of person she was.
"At any rate, I won't let you take a single break, Aria, not when I'm about to reach the peak of my career-"
"Despicable," Kai hissed under his breath, making Georgine trail off and blurt out, "Excuse me?"
He finally let his anger show through his darkened expression, which was something he usually wouldn't do. As a high-profile public figure, he's taught to always hide his emotions. But he refused to stay quiet this time, especially when someone clearly needed his help.
And with this resolve, Kai flashed a poisonous smile at Georgine.
"The singing goddess, was it? I don't think she would have a foul mouth like yours. You have everybody fooled, it seemed."
Just in case my very first readers are confused, I rewrote the whole book starting from Chapter 1 to Chapter 13, so there are scenes that have been added and scenes that have been removed. But overall, the plot of the story remains the same, though I still advise a recap of the current chapters!
