"Oh, no, Suni, love. Don't think that. I love you...more than life." Valente kissed her forehead, hugging her, carefully. "We'll go together. All together to dark shadows. Okay?" He stroked her hair as she cried. "Why'd you think I don't love you? Am I bad at showing that I love you?"

She shook her head and sniffled.

"Shh." He picked her up, touching her thighs and wrapping her legs around his waist. "Let's get you back to bed. Hold tight." He kissed the side of her head as she clenched her hands, fisting his collar of his shirt.

Red flashed before Suni's eyes and she was back in her room in a split second. She wiped her teary eyes with her sleeve to see his face clearly. He walked to bed with her wrapped around him like a koala and lied down with her.
