I answer the call with shaking hands and trembling lips.
"Hi, Jai, how was your trip to London?"
She sounds all right, I can even hear her kids bickering in the background. Not yet at work, then. "It was fun, I'll tell you all about it when we meet. You won't believe who I met, though."
"Anyone famous?"
"Is Emily Blake famous enough for you?"
"Get out! You met her? I'm a little jealous, love her show."
"And he took me to the ballet, to see The Nutcracker. Lee, it was beautiful." She says nothing for the longest time, and I check the phone to see if it's still working. "Lee?"
"That's wonderful, sweetie, I'm glad you had a great time. Listen, I called to ask a huge favour. I'm minus a car today, think you can drive me up to Mr Lin's?"
The universe must love me, because this is just the perfect excuse for me to drop by. I'm already up, grabbing jeans from the wardrobe, a jersey from the chest of drawers, clean underwear. "Sure, gimme half-an-hour to shower and get dressed."
