After the weekend passed it was Monday again, and school was open again. Vanessa got dropped off by her parents, and walked into the school. She walked over to her locker and put her combination in before heading to her class.
She smiled softly as she greeted her teacher before going and sitting down in her normal seat in the back. As soon as she sat down she took out her phone, and began reading a book on her phone. Over the weekend she had finished the book that she had already started reading since she wasn’t going to be able to get much work done on the slideshow, but she was okay with that since Xavier had his reasonings. She had gotten the chance to start a new book as well so it was fine by her.
She sat at her desk and read her book. She was interrupted though not just five minutes later when Xavier came over and sat next to her. “Good morning.” Xavier told her with a smile on his face.
Vanessa looked up from her phone to him. “Morning.” She said, before turning back to her book. She was really interested in her book, and so far it was a good book.
Xavier looked over her questioningly, wondering if he had done something or if she was just not in the mood for a conversation. In his eyes she looked okay, and he wondered about if she had heard him on the phone Friday out in the hall. He decided over the weekend that he would just ask her, but wasn’t sure how exactly to bring it up without looking suspicious.
“How are you this morning?” Xavier asked her, trying to make small talk with her.
Vanessa looked back over at him before putting her phone down, she should knew his game too well. He would probably never leave her alone while she was living in New Haven. “I’m doing okay this morning, how are you this morning Xavier?” She asked him, turning her attention fully to him.
“I’m doing okay as well. Thank you for asking Vanessa.” Xavier told her, in a slightly amused tone. They never called each other by their first names, they haven’t even said them since they had met each other.
There was a small silence that fell over the two of them. Both of them contemplated what had happened on Friday morning. Xavier wondered about how to ask her if she had followed him out into the hall, and Vanessa wondered about the call and his sudden mood change.
Before either of the teenagers could speak up though, they were both broken out of their thoughts by a blonde haired teenager, who just wouldn’t leave either of them alone. “Hey guys, good morning. Hey Vanessa did you think anymore about possibly coming to the party this Saturday? I bet that Xavier would really like it if you did.” Axel said to them, as he sat down in the seat in front of Vanessa.
Xavier, who didn’t know what Axel was talking about looked over at the boy with confusion in his eyes. “What are you talking about Axel? And how do you know Vanessa anyways?” Xavier asked him, confused as to when these two had met. Obviously he hadn’t introduced them to each other.
Vanessa, who was trying to remember what Alex had told her the other day spoke up for the other boy sitting in front of her. “I met Axel the other day while I was walking my dog. He invited me to your Halloween party this Saturday, but I immediately declined his offer.” She told the dark haired boy, filling him in on what his best friend had done while he had been away.
“Oh right, I had completely forgotten about the party. Why aren’t you coming though?” Xavier asked her, and she just gave him that look. The look that told him that he should already know the answer to the question he just asked.
“You already know why. I’m not a very social person, plus I’d rather stay home and read all weekend then go to a party where everyone will probably be drinking. My parents are also supposed to take me driving this weekend as well since something came up at work this past weekend so they couldn’t.” She told him, in a matter-of-fact tone. Xavier already knew she wasn’t much of a social person since she moved around a lot, she had basically already shown him this.
Xavier smiled softly at this. “Even if everyone else is drinking that doesn’t mean you have to as well. You can say no, and just hang out with me all night, we could just talk all night.” He told her, trying to talk her into coming to the party. He really wanted her to come, so that he could maybe get closer to her.
Vanessa thought about this for a bit. “We’ll see, I really want to get our project done within the next couple of days, so maybe if we can get that done I might come to the party.” She told him, knowing all too well that no matter what happened with the project she wasn’t going to go to the party. She just wasn’t a partying person.
Xavier smirks. “Alright, so what time should I be over at your house today? We need to get working on the project as soon as possible.” Xavier says in a very serious tone of voice.
“Right after school would work for me, then we have the entire rest of the day to work on it. At least of course until my parents come home, then you would have to go home as well.” Vanessa told him, as the bell rang for the first period to start.
“Alright, I will see you then. Just text me the address or I’ll meet you at your locker after the last period and I can give you a ride home. Your choice of course.” Xavier told her as the blonde haired boy in front of them went back to his regular seat with his other friends, knowing that his plan had worked.
Mrs. Dutch then called the class to order and started their lesson today on act two of the Crucible, and talking more about the projects they would be doing with their partners.
