Daily Flash Fiction

Collection of Flash Fiction. Genres ranging from romance and slice of life to fantasy and supernatural. Heartfelt and depressing. Short but fun, or sad. I challenged myself to write flash fiction everyday back in high school, November 2021. I would use a random word generator and pull 1-2 word/s from it to use as a writing prompt for the day. It's sloppy and maybe grammatically incorrect at times, but it's fun to see how much I improved. Updates Daily!

Words: Philosophy, Gasp

I've always preferred to be alone. Working alone, living alone, or anything that involves anything with people, I was always alone.

My daily life is uncomplicated. Working during night shifts in convenience stores, spending most of my time reading and idling around in a manga cafe, and sleeping whenever I feel like it. A very relaxing lifestyle where I don't need to interact with anyone. Except for when I service the customers at work.

Work is tedious but it pays well enough to pay off my rent, so it doesn't really matter. Surprisingly enough, people visit the store more often at night than during daytime. I always choose the days where I would be alone at night.

Jingle jingle

Oh here comes a customer.

"Good evening," I greeted unenthusiastically.

A blond haired man with a devastated expression limped inside the store. Glancing left to right, the man limped to various isles browsing the items,

"I bet he doesn't plan on buying anything," I thought as I reluctantly straightened my posture to appear more approachable.

The man stopped at one of the isles, the silverware isles. He stared at a long, sharped edged knife for quite some time. His eyes lit up and inspected the knife, glancing over to me with a deadpan expression. Forcing a smile with a bitter taste in my mouth, the man slowly walks to my direction.

He picked up pace and galloped to the counter, carelessly swinging the knife.

"How can I hel--" I was interrupted by a swift motion of the man's arm. Stumbled upon me is a man brandishing a knife centimeters away from cutting my throat.

"GIVE ME ALL THE MONEY YOU HAVE OR I'LL CUT YOUR THROAT!" threatened the man.

"I-i-i-can't do that sir," I said, shuddering from the closeness of the knife.

"I said give me all the money right now!"

A sweat trailed down from his forehead to his chin. His hands were shaking, his eyes were desperate. This person was scared.

"C-c-can I help you with a-a-anything else, sir?

The shaking stopped. He stared into my soul with devastated eyes, lowering the knife away from my throat. Lowering his head, I let out a sigh of relief. Lifting my arm to reach his back to pat his back, a jitter interrupted my motion. His eyes were deadpan.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, plunging the knife into my heart, dropping me from the counter.

My vision went dark. A burning sensation spreads from my heart to the whole body. My limbs are heavy.

"H...lp," I groaned, attempting to call for help. My life can't end like this.

".....elp-- cough cough,"

I can't let out my voice. It hurts, everything hurts. Someone… I need someone, anyone! Please…. Please help me…
