"As Zhang Wei and his group got down from the carriage, they were suddenly drawn to an incident that was taking place. The sky was tearing and a gap could be seen, from which a golden carriage emerged and stopped at the gate of Long Family. A young man with a handsome appearance was shrouded by a golden halo coming down from it. There were many people around the Long Family manor and the people around them bowed down to him. Zhang Wei learned from the surrounding whispers that he was the prince of this dynasty, the second prince, and also understood that this is the nephew of Madam Chi.
Madam Chi's third sister was married to the emperor and the prince had come to celebrate Madam Chi's mother's birthday. Madam Long was the prince's grandmother. Zhang Wei looked at the prince and the prince looked back at him suddenly. He felt like he had been seen through. The prince called out cheerfully to Aunt and when he looked at Zhang Wei beside Madam Chi, he asked in a questioning tone, "Zhang Wei, I felt like you were watching me."
Madam Chi hurriedly explained, "No, my dear nephew, he is blind." The prince was interrupted by a voice from the carriage. The woman's voice asked, "Who is it, Chang'er?" The prince replied, "It is the second Aunt." The woman was surprised and hurriedly got down and greeted Madam Chi happily. Madam Chi was also expressed his happiness to see his nephew and second sister.
When the two women were talking, Zhang Wei could feel that the prince was still looking at him. He was afraid that the prince would be aware that he could see, so he must find a way to remove himself from the prince's attention. He kept his head down and tried to avoid eye contact with the prince, but it was too late.
The prince approached Zhang Wei and asked, "Aunt, who is this young man?" Madam Chi explained that he was a beggar that she had taken in and was traveling with them. The prince looked at Zhang Wei with interest and asked, "May I have a closer look at him?" Madam Chi agreed, and the prince approached Zhang Wei.
Zhang Wei was very nervous, but he tried to hide it. The prince reached out and gently lifted Zhang Wei's chin, forcing him to look up. Their eyes met, and for a moment, Zhang Wei felt like he was being seen through. He could sense the prince's heart of truth, which could spy on other people's thoughts to some extent.
The prince asked, "You don't seem like a beggar. Why are you blind?" Zhang Wei answered, "I was born blind, your highness." The prince looked at Zhang Wei skeptically and asked, "Really? I don't think so." He released Zhang Wei's chin and stepped back. "I'll be keeping an eye on you."
Zhang Wei's heart sank. He knew that the prince was suspicious of him and that he would have to be careful. He decided that he must find a way to remove himself from the prince's attention. He decided to stay low and try to avoid any contact with the prince.
In the meantime, the esteemed members of the Long family, particularly Madam Long and her husband, gathered in front of their grand abode to warmly welcome their beloved daughters and grandson home. Madam Long embraced her two daughters tightly, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks as she exclaimed, "Lan'er and Yun'er, you've finally remembered your mother and come to see me!" She then turned her gaze to the prince and gently scolded, "And you, Chang'er, even you have forgotten your grandmother." The prince, with a warm smile, replied, "Grandmother, how could I ever forget you? I've simply been occupied with affairs of the kingdom and couldn't find a moment to visit."
Lord Long coughed politely, reminding his wife that their guests were tired from their long journey. He suggested they go inside, rest, and catch up after they've had a chance to rejuvenate. The family, arm in arm, made their way into the luxurious manor.
As Zhang Wei followed Madam Wei towards the grand Long family manor, a curious young boy queried, "Aunt, why is a blind man following you? Can't the Chi family even arrange a decent servant for their patriarch's wife?"
Madam Chi gently explained, "It's not like that. Despite his blindness, Zhang Wei is incredibly loyal and does everything in his power to serve me. Sometimes, a man who cannot see is more useful than those who can. He has a keen sense of perception that surpasses those with sight."
However, the Long family was disdainful and sought to confine Zhang Wei to the servant quarters. Madam Chi, with a firm yet gentle voice, stopped them. "He cannot see, so there is no harm in him staying with me. My young maid and Zhang Wei will stay in my room, and the three guards who accompanied us may have separate rooms arranged for their comfort." With that, she asserted her authority, guaranteeing the hospitality of the Long family towards her entourage.
