Chapter 36: The Camping Trip

Abigail's POV

“I’ll be fine, Momma,” I reassured her on my way out the door.

“Camping?” Momma raised an eyebrow. “I never thought of you as much of a camper.”

“It’s something new and exciting,” I replied. I rolled my suitcase along stuffed with the essentials: waterproof makeup, toiletries, my favorite sun hat, and the cutest swimsuit I owned, a pastel pink bikini with a tie on its front and a ruffle trim bottom. I hoped Elle would like it.

“It seems so rude for Dave to not pick you up!” Momma insisted.

She was sipping her usual coffee and huffing into her morning cigarette about how Dave should be more of a gentleman. That was something we both agreed upon, except we had very different definitions of Dave the gentleman. Dave could show me he was an okay guy by simply taking a hint and leaving me alone.
