Chapter 26: Same Old Momma

Abigail’s POV

I stayed with Elle until the summer sun slumped low in the sky.

We still had over an hour to get back home. Elle drove, as usual, and played her music low. She was humming along.

"Drive slower," I begged her.

"Abby," she chuckled and shook her head. "You just asked me to drive slower fifteen minutes ago. I can't go under the speed limit."

"Yeah..." I trailed off and leaned my head on her car's window. The glass was getting cooler with the night air.

"You don't want to go home, do you?" Elle asked.

"No," I shook my head.

She reached her arm over and placed one hand on my leg and patted it twice. Then she rested it there for security and weight.

"It's probably going to suck," Elle said. "But it's just going to be the same old bullsh*t from your same old Momma."

"You're right," I sighed. I leaned up in my seat, and she took her hand off my leg. I wanted it back.

"You were always right," I said.

"What do you mean?"
