“In Boston. On the other side of the country.”

Her deadened tone seemed to bring him back to life. Leaning forward, Bryan reached for her hand, only for Jenny to pull it back and place it in her lap. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “I know what you’re thinking—”

“No, I really don’t think you do.”

His mouth thinned. She could see his anger starting to rise and wondered if he regretted doing this where they couldn’t yell at each other.

“You want me to turn it down so that you don’t have to move.” He shook his head. “I can’t believe you, Jen. I thought you’d grown up. Can you for one second think of someone besides yourself?”

“Excuse me?” The last thing she’d wanted was to get mad, but this was ridiculous. “And you called me whento talk about this decision before you made it?”

“I told you—”

“Take the job, Bryan.” Her response made his head snap up, his eyes widen in surprise. “You’re going to be miserable if you don’t. But I’m not going with you.”
