Ashley’s eyes glinted in the sunlight. “I guess we’ll never know now, will we?”

In light of the disastrous dinner, saying good night was one of the easier things Jenny had dealt with all day. The quartet stood in the parking lot with only the streetlamps and surrounding neon for light, and she shook Ashley’s hand when it was extended, kissed Yvonne on the cheek, and made the proper responses when it came her turn.
