Ch 1

Arthur Kane groaned as his alarm rang, playing the wake-up call bugle music. Hitting the snooze button on his alarm clock, he falls back to his pillow.

"Why did i pick that to be the first thing i hear every morning again?" He muttered aloud in a muffled voice before he pushed himself up, revealing his well-built body only clad in shorts.

As he did his best to rub the sleep out of his eyes, Arthur stumbled blindly over towards the light switch on the other side of the room and flipped it on. After letting his eyes adjust to the sudden brightness, the harsh light doing wonders to wake him up, Arthur went back to make his bed, which was the first thing he did every day after waking up.

According to his father, it was supposed to instill a sense of discipline, but if Arthur was completely honest with himself, he mostly did it to keep his dad from nagging him more than he already did on a regular basis.

After his bed was made, Arthur headed into the bathroom that was attached to his bedroom to go through his morning routine. Brushing his teeth, answering both calls of nature, and finally taking a cold shower, the last one being the action that helped him wake up fully, he emerged ready to face the day.

Arthur left his bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist and made his way over to the dresser sitting next to his bed to procure some underwear. However, when he leaned down to pull open the drawer, he noticed something peculiar glinting up at him from next to his phone.

He reached down to pick it up and stared at it with a curious and confused expression. Held between his thumb and index finger was a key that he had never seen before. The thing was bulky and old-fashioned, clearly, an older model that wouldn't fit inside the lock of any modern door. Arthur looked at it for a few moments before he shrugged his shoulders and put it back where it was.

Arthur changed into a set of workout clothes consisting of a black sleeveless shirt, white shorts, and matching sneakers. He then grabbed his phone, took the towel back to the bathroom, and walked out of his room.

Considering that it belonged to the Kane Family (the owners of Kane Industries, a PMC, and weapons manufacturing company), Kane Manor was fairly big even when compared to others of its type. While Arthur enjoyed the privacy that came with living in such a large house with only three other people, not including the live-in maids, he disliked the time that it took him to reach the more regularly inhabited sections of the house.

For example, it took him almost five minutes to make it to the manor gym all the way from his room. So, was it really luxury if it was also mildly inconvenient?

"Good morning, dad" Arthur greeted the other person that was already there waiting for him, his adoptive father.

Jacob Kane was the current owner of Kane Industries. A retired marine that reached the rank of Colonel by the end of his military career, Jacob was now dedicated to running his company and raising his daughter and son to the best of his ability.

Jacob lost his wife and son after she was caught up in a shooting spree accident while taking her son shopping. She and Jacob's son died.

Arthur was one of the many orphans that live in the street of Gotham, he was also caught in the same accident, but he was able to survive it miraculously.

Jacob saw Arthur when he was at the scene of the accident. Arthur was being taken by the paramedic as one of the few survivors, Jacob came to Arthur to ask for what had happened.

Arthur reminded Jacob of his son, so not long after getting to know Arthur he adopted him. But, what he doesn't know is that after the incident Arthur got a new memory in him, memories of a past life.

Jacob raise Arthur as his son, raising him to the best of his ability meant giving him extensive military training. Jacob took this as Arthur wanting to "prepare" for when he eventually enlisted into the military in order to follow his father's footsteps, which made Jacob proud and more than willing to help him.

But little does Jacob knows that becoming a US soldier is not exactly what Arthur has in mind.

"Good morning, son," replied Jacob with a nod, standing at ease as he watched Arthur approach him. "You're still on time, but it took you longer than usual to arrive. Rough morning?"

Arthur gave him a 'so-so' gesture as he took his position in front of his father and began to stretch. "Kind of. Had some trouble waking up but nothing serious. Went to sleep a bit later than usual last night so I think that was it. I'm good now," he said followed by a sigh of relief as his back produced several satisfying popping sounds.

Jacob nodded in understanding but without any sympathy. "That should teach you not to mess with your sleeping schedule," he said snorting and shaking his head at his son's obvious dismissal of his words. "Very well, then. We'll start with some physical training and then some light sparring. It's Sunday so we'll only do some light work today."

Arthur fake cheered at the declaration, layering in as much sarcasm as he dared. "Yay. Thank God for small mercies."

Jacob raised an unimpressed eyebrow. "I can still make it a normal training day, you know?"

Arthur paused and mimed zipping his mouth. "Shutting up now. Never mind me."

Jacob snorted again. "Just get on the treadmill, son. Give me a half an hour jog to start things off."

Arthur saluted. "Roger that."
