Chapter 30 : Going on a Field Trip

"I informed Amelia that we would be converting two patient rooms into field-style hospital wards. We can fit eight beds into each room, ten if we crowd them. It's small numbers to start with, but it's optimistic." Tess had drawn a diagram on the whiteboard at the back of the room.

"What about the surgery rooms? They're much larger, they could hold more beds." Carrie pointed to one of the rooms that Tess had drawn up.

"Those are our last-ditch efforts. At least one will have to be open at all times. I prefer to leave as many of the surgery suites available as possible. Last time, we fit fifteen beds in the first suite, and luckily we never had to go beyond that. We need to consider ordering more disinfectant, if we get hit with disease, we're down before we're ever in the fight, to begin with," Tess explained.

That was a risk of crowding sick or injured soldiers so close together. Infection was a real risk, and Tess always had a good point.
