Jamison and Cole received a text from Evelyn as they pulled into a space outside Bertie’s.Brad’s girlfriend is here. She’s very excited to meet you, Cole! Are you almost here?Cole wrote her back while Jamison parked, letting her know they were grabbing food and they’d be home soon afterward. He hesitated to use the word “home,” but as they rode through town Cole felt his long-dormant memories reacting to what was still familiar. There were more houses than he remembered, different shops, trees had grown taller or been cut down, but as Jamison had said, Bertie’s was nearly the same as ever from the outside.
