Chapter 23: Love can't pay hospital bills

Fable and Violet groaned, leaning back onto the bench along with the dozens of other people doing the same thing.

“Fine, fine, we’ll take a break,” Kenzie relented. “I saw they were putting up banners and stuff over there. what for you think?"

“Are you tourists?” A voice piped up from behind them.

It was a middle-aged woman with a kind face and a sleeping toddler in her arms.

“Oh, yeah, how’d you tell?” Kenzie asked curiously.

“I thought so,” The woman laughed quietly, “The banners over there are for the Festival. It happens every year on the Summer Solstice.”

“Festival?” Violet asked.

“Oh, it’s so wonderful,” the woman gushed, “There will be a huge parade to start it off tomorrow, and it lasts all week. There will be booths and stalls, games of all kinds, and everyone dresses up for it.”

“It’s not the Festival of the Kings, is it?” Fable asked, something nagging her brain.
