Mortals will be tested? What kind of a message is that? Were the so-called constellations god-like entities and not role players? I had a lot of questions, but nobody answered them.
Just as I switched on the TV, news channels seemed to be reporting the appearance of this window. Every religious figure seemed concerned about the apocalypse presented by his religion. It was a nerve-wracking moment for the entirety of the world.
Within the short span of an hour, protests questioning what information the governments possessed regarding this message had started. People crowded into grocery stores looking for supplies, predicting that a shortage would occur soon. A temporary curfew had to be in the span of just four hours of this message's appearance.
The situation only kept getting worse, nobody knew what was going to happen until a new message appeared after the seventh hour:
[ Scenario: Kill or Be Killed
Difficulty: E
Details: Kill 3 entities. Areas will be subjected to force fields to ensure that escape is impossible. Every Area will be assigned a Seraph.
Rewards: All wounds will be healed after the completion of the mission. Starter Skill Options will be granted and Status Window will be unlocked. ]
As soon as this message window popped up, a cute little angel-like entity wearing a blindfold wholly covered with eyes had popped up outside my building. Despite its cute appearance, it had an evil smile with two small fangs protruding outside its mouth. Its teeth were as sharp as the tips of swords and it had six wings behind it's back.
"Welcome to the tutorial scenario and the first test mortals shall be subjected to. Do your best to survive. I, Nimrius will be the Seraph observing this Scenario." It announced, which had seemingly reached every single person bound by the force field within this particular area.
By the time I exited my apartment, there was panic everywhere. Nobody seemed to be in their right mind. People gathered below but couldn't bring themselves to kill each other.
"What if we don't follow through with this so-called scenario?" one man asked.
"You die." Nimrius replied with a solemn face, almost as if death didn't matter.
"What if we kill you instead?" another man asked furiously, unable to accept the situation around him.
"Well, you can try.." Nimrius sarcastically answered and fell into a fit of laughter.
In desperation, a woman attacked Nimrius. When she approached it with killing intent, her body started to burn and fade away, into mere ashes. It was like she never existed... It was clear that this wasn't a being anyone could simply mess with.
"Well, dear constellations. As you can see, this area doesn't have the brightest bunch but the scenario has just begun, I'm sure you will all be entertained enough by the end of this scenario. I thank you for your patience." Nimrius said, looking at the sky as if beings from above were watching.
Before the lady could simply fade away, a single shot from a shotgun blasted through her head like a hot knife sliding through butter. The only part of her that remained was the head, completely disfigured from the shot.
The shot was fired from the shotgun of a 58-year-old man, his name was known by everyone in the neighborhood. Ladies gossiped about him being a former mafia member, and mothers in the neighborhood put their children to sleep by scaring them with his name; Kang Deok-su. The children however; feared someone more than him; a horrendous Doberman that keeps barking to show hostility to anyone who isn't Kang Deok-su, Kang called this dog as Bite.
Bite was ferocious. The only time it wasn't on its leash, it jumped through the door of Kang's mansion and bit the foot of a cyclist. The dog bite was strong enough to cause nerve damage to him, the only thing he was able to ride after that incident was a wheelchair.
Without saying a word, Kang immediately pointed the gun at a man and shot his left foot while the dog attacked a few others. Everyone had started to understand the situation and rip each other apart.. As a doctor, I was unbothered by this chaos, I just wanted to do my best to save the life of the man who just lost his left foot. I desperately tried until I understood.
This man had lost too much blood. He would not survive...
"What is your name?" I asked the man.
"Jae Wook." The man answered.
Just as I was about to inform him that he wouldn't survive the blood loss, the man chose to attack me. That's when I understood the true meaning of "Kill or Be Killed". Saving someone was never an option.
I struck the man's throat with my kitchen knife with very little hesitation. He couldn't have been saved. That was the harsh reality in front of me. It was the same as when a person couldn't pay the doctor's fees for a loved one; that's essentially signing their death warrant. This man chose to attack someone who tried to help him. Even if he could have been saved, a backstabber this bad wouldn't have survived long anyways.
"Patient Name.. Jae Wook. Time of Death... 11:05 pm.." I whispered to myself looking at my watch. I had taken my first kill.
I know the first and the second chapters were short. I'll try and correct this mistake from the third.
