Choosing second to come first

It begins a bit rough but improves as it progresses just due to it being my first work, the world as everyone knew it changed, John though refused to bend or bow, well others seemed to be corrupted and changed by there choices John kept his sanity, or rather had no sanity to hold onto as the voices in his head that others beside his best friend dismissed as imaginary become more prominent, as he sets out to make his mark he learns the nature of the changes to the world, finding out more and striving to get stronger and to kill the so called gods who where responsible for it, but everything comes at a cost. So just a small heads up, it starts a little rough but I can promise it Improves as the chapters go on, a bit slow but it's my first real novel so hope you all enjoy it :-) Ps. This story is writing itself, so all the twists and turns are by its own choice as I'm just the one putting it on digital paper as odd as that sounds, share a stone if you like it and I'll also try to keep as consistent as I can with updates.

Chapter 54

Chapter 54

Lesh after returning told those present the same as what he told those who had being brought up surprising them before he proceeded to gently lay Alice down with her head on his lap and gaze into the fire, Carnage and Butcher flanking him on either side and the old man sitting close by seeming to have no interest in getting any armour or weapon for himself.

It was roughly a hour later that everyone had fully equipped themselves with armour and a weapon, those choosing to leave having clearly taken more than what they would need and only his own group listened to what he had said, each with a full set of makeshift armour and a weapons that seemed to suit them.

"Shouldn't we try to find where they keep all there wealth?" One of the people making up Lesh's group couldn't help but ask, as they found no coin or other such valuables in the vault only to receive a headshake from him.

"No, there's no need, we have spent enough time here as it is, and it would be better to just leave those who are choosing to leave to find it for themselves if they really want it. Later down the line we will make our own wealth just have some trust in me." He tells the group as he walks out the camp.

The group following behind with some trepidation but having already deciding to put there trust in him follow behind.

It was a slow trek back especially with how dark it was, the only illumination they had from make shift torches but thankfully there was not many attacks on the way, it seemed most of the nocturnal creatures where held at bay by the torches and the presence of Butcher and Carnage kept the possible human attackers away with their intimidating forms. The few odd looking biped wolves being made short work of by the pair further deterring any humans from trying anything and even keeping some of the other beasts at bay.

"Welcome home master and guests." The soft sultry voice of Elena greeted them as they reached the home, a smile on her face.

Seeing the followers look around curiously both at the dilapidated house, broken greenhouse and Elena, Lesh felt he had to clarify things for them. "I am aware its doesn't seem like much but admittedly me and Alice have only been in this destroyed world for a grand total of around 3 to 4 days at most, causing any plans we had to fall threw, but we did get some decent items from it as compensation 1 of those imp creatures are our captive that we can exploit. As for the house, there is still running water admittedly cold water but better than nothing and 2 bathrooms, tomorrow I will mark each so one will be for the men and the other the women, each will be responsible for there specific bathrooms, we will also start sorting out jobs for everyone and figuring out how best to use your classes. Now, I know it was a long walk and you are all no doubt tired but first I think you all deserve a light meal before bed. Elena kindly give some fresh fruit to our guests here, they will be staying here for atleast a month and helping to not just clear the place up and reinforce everything but doing all sorts of things to help aid us."

What he was greeted with though was a hard stare, Elena's eyes burning with fury and roots having come out the ground, there tips as sharp as razors and pointed at his throat.

"What is the meaning of this Elena? Are you trying to turn on us now and betray us?" Lesh ground out, eyes narrowed as he looked visibly upset at her.

"You reek of death, your tone and posture is different form masters and you clearly have a entirely different feel, either expel yourself from him and stop pretending to be him or I will end you!" She coldly tells him, the point of a root pressing against his through now drawing blood.

"I may not be him but I was brought out to keep him alive, desperate measures and all that, but I can assure you I will be leaving back to his mindscape as soon as he returns, or when another is required to come out instead, but know that killing me will mean killing your master." He harshly tells her in a icy tone, both glad about her fanatism towards her master and annoyed at having to spell this out for her.

With a final glare she slowly and reluctantly pulled away the roots. "I will be watching you very closely, and if I so much as get a hint that you will harm the master I will turn you into fertilizer." She threatens him as she turns away, a few stick people bring out some fruits for the followers who afraid at first slowly took them and ate them. Visible bliss showing on there faces.

Once everyone was done eating their bits of fruit Lesh proceeded to show them to the mostly intact rooms where they would be staying and once all sorted for the night took Alice to the makeshift bed in his room, gently laying her down and ensuring she was okay before pulling up a chair to sleep on next to her.

"Now to experience this 'sleep' that the living require, I rather look forward to this new sensation. I hope you 2 don't mind keeping watch and patrols, do you?" He quietly says slowly forcing himself to relax, receiving a grunt form the large pair, Butcher taking a spot in the corner and Carnage leaving the room, no doubt to do a first patrol. Slowly, with eyes closed Lesh began to drift off, sleep beginning to claim him for the first time in his existence.
